PIAGET’s Creations unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2024

Explore Piaget's extraordinary creations for its 150th anniversary, unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2024.
2070

On the occasion of Watches and Wonders 2024, Piaget wrote a new chapter in the history of precision watchmaking, presenting the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Maison.

To mark this special anniversary, Maison Piaget has performed an outstanding feat, a first in watchmaking history. 150 years after the Maison was first founded, 67 years after it invented its first ultra-thin calibre – the 9P – and 6 years after it created the thinnest watch in the world at that time, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, in 2018, Piaget has once again pushed the boundaries of horological ingenuity.

The Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon is a paradox in and of itself. And yet, its dimensions, which truly stretch the limits of watchmaking feasibility, are a visual statement that can only begin to outline 150 years of human and horological history. With a diameter of 41.5 mm, a guaranteed water resistance to a depth of 20 metres and a blue PVD-treated cobalt alloy case, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon appears to possess all the features of an everyday watch. However, its 2 mm thickness and its annular tourbillon take it to a different plane: that of the extraordinary.

PIAGET POLO DATE – 150TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION
For Watches and Wonders 2024, Maison Piaget is once again bridging the gap between past and present. For this year’s exhibition, they have struck the perfect chord between the bright gadroons of the historic Piaget Polo and the casual-chic allure of the iconic Piaget Polo Date.

PIAGET POLO 79
In 1979, Piaget revealed the Maison’s first sports elegant watch, a watch that would come to define the spirit and elegance of the 1980s. Now, 45 years after its first appearance, this historically significant timepiece is reborn as Piaget Polo’79 still in keeping with the Zeitgeist of the Piaget Society then and now.

For Watches and Wonders 2024, Piaget celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Maison by expanding on 2023’s revival of its most iconic High Jewelry Watches signatures : the ground-breaking and hypnotic cuff watches and Swinging Sautoir first introduced in 1969, and the audaciously precious Aura watch, launched in 1989.

SWINGING SAUTOIR
To understand the evolution of Piaget’s most precious High Jewelry timepieces, one must go back to 1957, and the first heartbeat of what lies within each – the ultra-thin 9P hand-wound mechanical movement born in La Côte-aux-Fées, Switzerland, where Piaget was founded in 1874.The now famous movement was revolutionary, but the decision to house it only in precious metals would set the Maison on course to be true masters of Haute Horlogerie and Haute Joaillerie at the same time.

CUFF WATCH
1969 also saw the introduction of the cuff watch, a boldly-scaled style that only continued to grow in exuberance and extravagance in terms of size and materials : deep cuffs of graphic gold openwork, heavily textured gold bracelets and vibrant coloured dials. So much so that the dramatic watches in the 21st century collection were hailed in the press as the watches ‘of the international elite.’ After the 2023 Hidden Treasures cuff was awarded by the GPHG’s Ladies Watch prize, the Maison is introducing this season another take on this icon.

AURA
When the first High Jewellery Aura timepiece was revealed in 1989, it sparked a frenzy of enthusiasm for the daring nature of its seamless integration of its bracelet and case entirely paved with baguette-cut diamonds, proving Piaget’s prowess in gem-setting. Beautiful both in and out, this exceptional timepiece boasted an ultra-thin movement, the Piaget Manufacture Ultra-thin manual winding 40P, when most of the Maisons were using quartz movements for their precious watches. Now, for its 35th anniversary, the Maison celebrates this precious icon with the launch of two unique pieces set with beautiful hues of rubies, pink sapphires and diamonds

PIAGET POSSESSION 150TH ANNIVERSARY
This year, Piaget unveils a new iteration of its beloved Possession collection in celebration of the Maison’s 150th anniversary. Diving into a precious library of savoir-faire, magnetic goldsmithing technics are revived in this most playful of capsule collections – a celebration of the Maison’s enduring mastery of gold, and spirited approach to movement.
