CHANEL has continued its commitment to cinema-related creations and is now launching a new program called “CHANEL & CINEMA – TOKYO LIGHTS”.
“CHANEL & CINEMA – TOKYO LIGHTS Tokyo’s Brilliant Talents” is a Japanese film group that has won awards such as the Japan Academy Award, the Asian Film Award, the Cesar Award and the Palme d’Or for “Shoplifters” at the Cannes Film Festival 2018 Festival This is a unique program created with the aim of supporting the production of a new generation of directors in collaboration with the world-renowned director Hirokazu Kore-eda.
“We were looking for a partner who could help us develop young talent with an eye on the film industry in 10 or 20 years. From now on, we will pool our knowledge with Chanel and provide a place for new encounters, I want it to be an exciting project.” – Director Hirokazu Kore-eda.
Aimed at supporting the creativity, daring and creative freedom of young filmmakers in the internationally renowned Japanese film tradition, this program provides a platform for expression and support from film industry experts.
Born around the same time as cinema, Gabrielle Chanel was friends with some of the greatest directors in the history of cinema. She designed many costumes for films, first in Hollywood and then in Paris, and the modernity of her work resonated with the rise of the Nouvelle Vague and her generation of directors. Today, Chanel remains true to the pioneering vision and commitment of founder Gabrielle Chanel, creating costumes for films and collaborating with the world’s most prestigious directors, institutions and film festivals. At the same time, CHANEL respects the decisions of the filmmakers to the maximum in their production and values the complete freedom and uniqueness of all the films involved.
Through this long-term project, the Maison renews its desire to foster endless creativity and contribute to the development of artistic communities in Japan and around the world.
