From April 15 to 21 Triennale Milano and Alcantara are presenting Generating Visions. Alcantara in the Arts, curated by Damiano Gullì, the Triennale curator for Contemporary Art and Public Programs.

The exhibition is an unprecedented journey through the historical archives of the Italian Company Alcantara, the fruit of its experimentation in the world of art, design and contemporary theatre over many years. Staged at Triennale Milano, it presents a selection of works by Italian and international artists of different generations, practices and artistic philosophies, whom the company has invited over the years to try out their skills using Alcantara material.

Since the beginning, Alcantara has established a strong collaborative relationship with worldwide designers and creatives from the most various fields of design. Subsequently, the company took on a proactive role in relations with authors, feeling the potential for developing a dialogue in search of new expressive methods and possibilities of application. The launch of a series of special projects has finally defined a new and distinctive way of intervention in the artistic field.

The exhibition proposes a fresh dialogue between the works of Yuri Ancarani (Ravenna, 1972), Alberto Biasi (Padua, 1937), Zhang Chun Hong (Shenyang, 1971), Qin Feng (province of Xinjiang, 1961), Soundwalk Collective (a collective founded by Stephan Crasneanscki in New York in 2000), Nanda Vigo (Milan, 1936 – 2020) and Lorenzo Vitturi (Venice, 1980), generating new visions and imagery linked to nature and the landscape, to architecture, sound and calligraphy. Through a selection of archive videos, the exhibition also offers the opportunity to revisit all the collaborations that developed in a constant exchange and dialogue with visual artists, fashion and industrial designers, film directors, video makers, architects and musicians.

Alcantara was defined as the “material of the future”. Today, thanks to the open dialogue with the creative avant-gardes and the countless partnerships with authors and international institutions, becoming an integral part of the creative process – not only as a medium for artists to interpret their visions, but as a generator of them.

During the Milan Design Week, ALCANTARA The material of art, a book published by Skira and curated by Luca Masia, will be available at the Triennale Milano bookshop. The publication focuses on the genesis and evolution of the special relationship between Alcantara and the world of art and creativity.
