The passion for literature and for the transmission of publishing culture made it natural for Louis Vuitton to give life to the international and itinerant project of the “librairie éphémère”. Iconic and characteristic places of the cities of the world take on a new lease of life thanks to the incredibly lively and cosmopolitan spirit of the Louis Vuitton travel editions. Starting from Paris with the famous Bouquinistes of the Rive Gouche of Saint Gemain on the occasion of the Photo Festival, passing through the West Bund in Shanghai on the occasion of Art Fair, the “librairie éphémère” project debuted in Venice, the first Italian stop, subsequently arriving at Milan, on the occasion of the Design Week and for the summer season in Capri.

In October, on the occasion of the launch of the new City Guide Venice, with updated addresses and information, the project returns to animate the historic newsstand in Calle Larga dell’Ascension. From 13 to 23 October, the newsstand will host, in addition to the usual sale of newspapers and periodicals, the complete collection of Louis Vuitton City Guide, Travel Book and Fashion Eye. In total respect of the original architecture of the Venetian newsstand, but carrying the note of elegance and liveliness that distinguishes the rainbow of Louis Vuitton editions, the Maison intends to draw the attention of the public, especially the younger one, to beauty and value of quality editorial products, helping to pass it on to future generations.

Since 1998, Louis Vuitton has instilled its nomadic nature in the City Guides by offering a unique and personal selection. Each city is told by independent writers and personalities from different worlds. Revealing the latest trends and novelties, each City Guide is aimed at flâneurs, as well as business travelers, or even local inhabitants: majestic palaces and charming boutique hotels, gourmet restaurants and neighborhood bistros, popular markets and refined shops, antique shops and design studios, museums and boutiques, monuments and secret places …

Each City Guide includes the participation of a special contributor, who gives a personal vision of the city. These guests accompany the reader on an exploration of the city, sharing tips and favorite addresses. At the end of each chapter and throughout the text of the guide, contributors provide their own personal point of view and their own secret addresses. For the updated edition of the City Guide Venice 2023, the guest is Alberto Barbera, Artistic Director of the Venice Film Festival. An exceptional career in the world of cinema, a Venetian, by default and fortunately, Alberto Barbera crossed Italy from west to east, from Turin to Venice. Today he divides himself between Milan and the Lido.

The authors make their invaluable contribution to each guide in the series. To best express the spirit of the city, Louis Vuitton avails itself for Venice of the precious contribution of the authors Pierre Léonforte, Servane Giol, François Simon and Isabelle Valembras-Dahirel. Their contribution, combined with that of artists and creative geniuses in every field and supported by the authority and experience of the Louis Vuitton maison, makes the City Guide a unique work, an atypical and unconventional guide. Curious, cosmopolitan, entertaining and literary, the guide reflects the personality of its authors. All the authors are astute observers of life and wear their boundless culture with class and elegance. They have the rare gift of appreciating frivolity and the essential at the same time, seeking true luxury even in the small pleasures that each city has to offer.
