JR: Chronicles has traveled to its fourth country. From August 26th, 2022 until January 15th, 2023, Kunsthalle München welcomes visitors to explore the largest retrospective dedicated to JR in Germany to date.
Pasted on houses, trains, container ships, or border walls, JR’s installations only last for a limited period of time. However, through photographs, videos, models, and large-scale pastings, this multimedia exhibition makes it possible to experience projects that have taken place all over the world.
After the inaugural exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum in New York, Jr: Chronicles moved to the Saatchi Gallery in London and then the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands. The Kunsthalle München exhibition includes a specially created trompe-l’œil (optical illusion) by JR that appears to break through the museum walls. The installation invites visitors to reflect on JR’s actual field of activity from within the museum: the city streets.
To bring the spirit of JR: Chronicles to the streets of the city, one of Inside Out’s Photobooth trucks will be in Munich from September 9th to 15th, 2022.
