“A REMEDY” Jewelery Project Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg Miu Miu Miu Miu collaborates with the artists Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, who designed the jewels of the Fall / Winter 2022 collection. ‘ornament in itself, the partnership makes Miu Miu’s long-term commitment to making its own artistic contribution tangible.

Inspired by their 2015 series of sculptures “A Thief Caught in the Act”, in which colorful birds steal equally colorful pills and tiny animals from a table, expressing – according to the artists – “the desire to escape with grace and humor”, the jewels are tactile, apparently innocent but always with a hint of mischief. They express a primary tension present not only in the work of Djurberg and Berg but also in the Miu Miu language, where they highlight even more the paradoxes that remain deliberately fundamental for the brand.

Djurberg & Berg called the collection “A Remedy”, a remedy. “We wanted the title to be comforting, but at the same time exciting and a bit mystical,” they say. “In our opinion it comes on multiple levels,” one of which is surely the great fascination exerted on anyone who sees them by these tiny, perfectly shaped artifacts.

Shiny ‘pills’ and simple animal figures challenge the idea of precious jewelry in the form that is most familiar to us, while creating an intimate relationship with the wearer and expressing the idea of something extremely personal, conceived to be anyway very expensive. Both the animals and the pills are made with hand-finished resin elements and hand-polished galvanized metal with a nickel-free golden finish. Assembly and decoration are also handcrafted.

The jewels are presented in special boxes painted with flora and fauna in a palette of bright colors that reflect the jewel contained in them and printed with the Miu Miu brand. Opening the box, a music box inside plays music composed by Hans Berg specifically for the project.

In addition to creating the jewels, from design to packaging, Djurberg and Berg are also responsible for the art direction of the campaign that accompanies the launch, thus taking the collaboration to an even deeper level. The shots by Julien Martinez Leclerc immortalize the entry into the Miu Miu universe of actress Isadora Bjarkardóttir Barney, who joins a large group of emerging and interdisciplinary Miu Miu muses, united by their diversity and their passionately individual attitude. Photographed from extreme perspectives, the jewels are seen one moment through her eyes, another through ours and yet another through those of creatures from another world – again those birds and a large skeletal hand of unlikely size. A reflection of the intimate and personal nature of the product, which, however, also exaggerates its proportions in a deliberately disorienting way. Are these creepy intruders giving the jewels to the country diva or stealing them from her? Nobody will ever know.
