“I wanted to explore different worlds in bringing my collections to life, so I decided to open my pre-collection to a new creative voice each season. Someone special to me, whose unique creativity also surrounds me in my personal life. Creativity means freedom and it is empathy and communication with others. It is your voice, your identity, something inside you that you want to share with others. Therefore, I was excited about the conversation that would take place when our creative worlds met and the new interpretation of my identity that would come to life. I am thrilled to announce Lea T as my first partner for this new creative series which will debut with the Fall / Winter 2022 pre-collection. Lea is my family, my love, not only someone so attached to animals and nature, but also a person who is able to balance fierce femininity and effortless romantic softness. This series is about a celebration of identity, style and family. “ Riccardo Tisci, Chief Creative Officer
The collection celebrates style and identity, unity and freedom, nature and the outdoors.
In this collection we see a modern twist on the brand codes that made Burberry the brand it is today. An eclectic British style combined with exploration and the ability to go further. Themes surrounding adventure and discovery, both in the physical world and on a personal level, removing the boundaries to creativity and personal expression.
The Fall / Winter 2022 Pre-Collection is the first of the new creative series Friends and Family. Riccardo Tisci will collaborate with inspiring creatives from different backgrounds for each pre-collection. In a true celebration of unity, style and family, the creative partner will interpret the Burberry identity defined since Tisci joined the brand, designing the collection and bringing a personal creative vision. For this collection, Riccardo collaborated with Lea T, longtime partner and part of the Burberry family. She appeared as a model in Burberry campaigns and walked the Spring / Summer 2021 show.
The collection delves into the outdoors. The outerwear is renewed in new oversized silhouettes with reconstructed details, inspired by a young and fresh interpretation of classic styles. This is seen on short-sleeved silk twill shirts, wool skirts and t-shirts featuring the British Isles, mirrored globe and maps with monogram prints. The theme of the freedom of the British artisan movement is also present in the fluidity of dresses and geometric prints on jackets, over shirts and sweaters.
“Creativity is closely linked to our interests, to what surrounds us and to our passions. All of this leads us to broaden our minds and creatively explore self-expression. This is one of the most important and profound challenges we have in this life because it has to do with reflection: the courage and strength you need to be able to understand who you are. I have been working with Riccardo for many years and it has been a great experience doing it from a new perspective because this creative series brilliantly highlights the people surrounding the creator of these dresses. In this way, Riccardo undresses and shares a new interpretation of someone close to him and does it with great respect for his vision. Today Burberry is like a big window, a place where you can be free to build and a space to create wonderful things. Looking at the history of the brand, I see interesting things that can be linked to an urban life, but also to the desire of those who flee into the wonderful woods of England. It is precisely the respect for this world and for one’s own nature that I wanted to explore, even if it comes out of the canons created by the society in which we live. It is essential to dare in life as long as you always respect your own nature “. Lea T, Stylist
