The history of Bad Bleiberg dates back to the Middle Ages, when 1300 km of tunnels, now a Unesco heritage site, were excavated: these mines are no longer in business but have become a privileged tourist destination for those in search of particular places.

On the path well indicated by yellow signs representing chisel and hammer, symbols of miners, you will find lots of information in Italian about the history of this fascinating land of miners, became in 1951 a land with a thermal vocation: miners working in lead mines pierced by chance a thermal spring, suddenly the hot water flooded the tunnels with a capacity of 2800 liters per minute. Only 10 years later the water was recognized as a “thermal spring”; in the meantime the miners “created” underground small pools to rest, benefiting from them. The village of “Bleiberg” took the name of “Bad Bleiberg” ie “Bleiberg Baths” to indicate the spa town.

The thermal water is now used in very pure form (not elongated) from the wellness center of the Bleibergehof hotel, from where the “miners’ path” starts, in German referred to as “Stollenwanderweg”, a trekking for everyone, flat, easy, lasting about an hour and a half.
Starting from the Bleibergerhof hotel you arrive at the Terra Mystica mine-museum, where you can enter with a guided tour to see a real mine. The path inside the mine lasts a couple of hours, and the entrance to Terra Mystica is included in the special package of the Bleibergerhof hotel.

La storia di Bad Bleiberg risale al Medioevo, quando furono scavate 1300 km di gallerie, ora patrimonio dell’Unesco: queste miniere non sono più in attività ma sono diventate meta turistica privilegiata per chi è alla ricerca di luoghi particolari.

Sul percorso ben indicato da cartelli gialli raffiguranti scalpello e martello, simboli dei minatori, si trovano tante informazioni anche in italiano sulla storia di questa affascinante terra di minatori, diventata nel 1951 una terra dalla vocazione termale: i minatori al lavoro nelle miniere di piombo perforarono per caso una sorgente termale, improvvisamente l’acqua calda inondò le gallerie con una portata di 2800 litri al minuto. Solo 10 anni più tardi l’acqua fu riconosciuta come “fonte termale”; nel frattempo i minatori “crearono” sottoterra delle piccole piscine per riposare, traendone benefici. Il paese di “Bleiberg” prese la denominazione di “Bad Bleiberg” cioè “Bagni Bleiberg” per indicare la località termale.

L’acqua termale è ora utilizzata in forma purissima (non allungata) dal centro benessere dell’hotel Bleibergehof, da dove parte anche il “sentiero dei minatori”, in tedesco indicato come “Stollenwanderweg”, un trekking alla portata di tutti, pianeggiante, facile, dalla durata di circa un’ora e mezza. Partendo dall’hotel Bleibergerhof si arriva alla miniera- museo Terra Mystica, dove si può entrare con una visita guidata a vedere una vera miniera. Il percorso all’interno della miniera dura un paio d’ore, nel pacchetto speciale dell’hotel Bleibergerhof è compreso anche l’ingresso a Terra Mystica.
