When you decided that you want to be a designer?

My art story began when I was a child. My Grandmother and I saw an art school, and step by step, I realized that art became an integral part of my life and that I want connected with it. Later I was a student of The Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design where my passion to art was properly shaped and I started my first experiments in design.

It was your dream job?

It was and it is. And I hope that it will stay my dream job forever. For me it is essential to love what I am doing, I believe that only in this case I can consider myself as a happy person.

What is the first thing you designed and for who?

I designed a paper dress, just like a trial and at the same time challenge to express my inner vision into a material object.

Who’s the designer you admire the most?

John Galliano. I like the description of him as a designer given by WWD – a dreamer with imagination and skill to realize his dreams. He is a true enigma in fashion with such an exceptional vision.

Who’s you muse, your icon, when you create a dress?

For the coming season my inspiration is the art of Jean-Michel Basquiat, famous for his neo-expressionism art.  But who knows what would be my source of inspiration next time? Probably it will be someone or something absolutely unexpected. I appreciate the fact that fashion is so much connected with different genres of art and it is a form of art itself.

If you had to design an entire collection using just one color, which is the one you’d pick and why?

It would be a midnight blue color, I just like this hue and think that it looks perfectly well nearly on any occasion. Though hope that I will never have to pick only one color as the process of working with different shades and looking for dazzling combinations is so thrilling that I cannot imagine my designs without it.

Who’s the first person you show your sketches to?

To my greatest supporter and strictest critic – to my Grandmother. She is an absolutely unique person with such an eye for minute details that I think that she should have become a designer herself.

If you have to pick the fabric you like the most it will be?

Should I pick only one? It would be too challenging for me. Fabric is a way to show my philosophy through material, so in some respect it is the reflection of my collection mood which depends on the theme, my approach and many other things. For the coming season I would probably choose silk, but I am not ready to put aside lace or velvet. I am afraid that I would never be able to choose just one material.

If your clothes had a soundtrack, which songs you’d choose?

It would be definitely something from Placebo.

Do you have any trick…

No tricks or secrets at all. I attend life classes where I am making sketches, also I read a lot and watch old movies. But inspiration can come out of nowhere. It is important always live with wide-open eyes and remember that the best things are usually totally unexpected and of course come to those who can observe the world around us.

If you weren’t a designer which job in the fashion world you would like to do and why?

Probably the stylist. But not the one who simply chooses quantity over quality, but the one who helps people to find their own way of dressing, to make them happier and even a bit braver.  So I would call it an art-stylist.
