In spring 2018, Louis Vuitton published four new titles for the Carnet de Voyage collection illustrated by artists from all over the world. This year, the Chinese Li Kunwu designs Cuba in a lavish and colorful style; the Russian Pavel Pepperstein paints Prague through his icons, with traces of poetry and romance; the American Miles Hyman stages a Rome full of life and contrasts; the Swiss Thomas Ott crosses Route 66 and leads us into a chiaroscuro story.

On each page the works of internationally renowned artists and young talents recount cities and towns, their steep paths and the linear architectures, lights, days and lives that take place there. Every illustrator goes to meet worlds that are foreign to him; his eyes are sharpened, stimulated by the surprise of the unknown or by the pleasure of discovery. The white page becomes a place, virgin of any reference. The points of view are then turned into narrative that can be both tender, picturesque and even satirical. Beyond the iconographic vocation of these carnets, the collection highlights the richness of aesthetic horizons that art offers today.

The creative universes are very different and during their travels, these artists from various corners of the world have been free to choose their mode of expression: drawing, painting, collage, illustration, comic or manga become the prism through which to transcribe the places visited.
