Pre-Raphaelites romanticism by Altuzarra pre-fall 2017

The 2017 Pre-Fall collection pays homage to the romanticism of the Pre-Raphaelites, and their devotion to nature. Dresses with draped, flowing hems illustrate a softer, romantic silhouette. Sleeve cuffs, gathered at the wrist, as if by a bracelet, are reminiscent of the Pre-Raphaelite’s interest in medieval culture, and given jackets an unexpected femininity. Botanical prints seem hand-painted onto the fabric itself, mimicking  the detailed floral renderings of the Victorian era, but turn them on their head by illustrating the roots of the plants with as much details as the flower itself. Luxuriously embroidered dresses appear to have been spliced and reconstructed, held together with delicate ribbons, vestiges of another time made anew. The collection also captures the boldness and strength of a modern  heroine. A series of precisely curved-shoulder jackets and tops are modernized with the use of a single exposed metal zipper  in the front, contributing to a sense of freedom and effortlessness. Flat thigh-high and ankle boots lend a sense of ease and pragmatism to the silhouette, and speak of a woman constantly on the move.
