Dafna May is a womenswear brand established in 2016 in Ukraine by the graduate of Regent’s University in London – Dafna Mayberg. The short name of the designer’s surname “Mayberg” – May – symbolizes the most beautiful month of the spring and in the same time the philosophy of the brand: freshness, brightness and innocence. Dafna Mayberg was born in 1991 in Israel, from 2006 till 2015 she was living in London, during her study at Regent’s University she was  a student of the Stella McCartneys` teacher so she  knows how to combine functionality and practicality together with femininity and grace. The first collection of the brand “Sweet Sixteen” was shown on schedule on the main catwalk on Mercedes-Benz Kiev Fashion Days and won every true lady`s heart. Attentiveness to little details, feminine silhouettes, unique prints and unusual cut together are making the DNA of the Dafna May brand.

When and how you decided that you wanted to be a designer?

I had always loved to draw and to create images and the choice seemed easy enough. But I think that I decided definitely to be a designer when I had moved to London.

It was your dream job?

Yes, Of course.

Which is the first thing you designed and for who?

It was a birthday party of my friend. I had to create on this occasion dress design for myself. Actually, it was the starting point.

Who’s the designer you admire the most and why?

I do not have one muse. From time to time, due to different collections they are different.

Who’s your muse, your icon, when you create a dress?

It may be different designers. Everything depends on their collections, season, mood.

If you had to design an entire collection using just one color, which is the one you’d pick and why?

Black indeed. It is classic.

Who’s the first person you show your sketches to?

My team, of course.

The fabric you love the most…silk, lace, velvet and why?

Silk and lace. Because they are very feminine.

If your clothes had a soundtrack, which songs you’d choose?

It can be very different music. All depends on situation.

Do you have any trick to avoid that “blank page” moment when you’re at the beginning of the designing of a new collection? Do you watch a movie, flip an old magazine…

I think for me it is fabric. When I see different fabrics and begin to imagine future dresses… it is my inspiration.

If you weren’t a designer which job in the fashion world you would like to do and why?

Stylist indeed. I like to dress people, make different combinations and look through, how it will go on. It is a very creative job.
