Christian Wijnants SS17
To present a more streamlined vision on seasonal changes, Christian Wijnants will now show two collections a year, with a pre-fall and resort delivery which blends into the main collection. This way the customer gets one story in two sequels.
To dress women in Spring-Summer 2017, Wijnants was inspired by aerodynamics and the work of artist Christo, who uses lightweight, floating sails to wrap buildings and create surfaces around islands. Wijnants wraps the body in cool parachute-like materials with ballooning volumes.
Polkadot motifs and floral prints make for a unified silhouette and total look in bright colors, with a hint of activewear which allows for the wind to play through the surface. The softly tailored blousons and nylon coats are padded and ribbed. Washed and crushed silks create extra tactility. Pants are straight, wide and extra long, giving an easy elegance to every look. A gathered sack is a nonchalant addition to this girls’ lightweight silhouette.
Knitted pleats feature in ensembles with jacquard florals and raffia finishings pop out of delicate knitwear. Nylon harness tops with an armature outlook alternate with blouses with kimono sleeves and ballooning backsides.
Thick black Japanese wooden platform sandals give a sturdy basis to the lightweight garments. Look out for the silk jumpsuits in monochrome palettes which look like color patches floating around the body.
