Jonathan Anderson calls up the Loewe Craft Prize

The LOEWE Foundation unveils the trophy LOEWE Craft Prize. The prize will be awarded annually to the author of a ‘handicraft works, selected from the works of competitors from around the world.

The LOEWE FOUNDATION, initially created by the fashion house as a collective of artisans, through this award, is meant to acknowledge the talent, vision and specialist skills of contemporary artists that will introduce a new standard for the future.
Since its announcement, the prize has registered a large number, as well as the attention of the artistic community and international design. The LOEWE Foundation presented the trophy that will be awarded to the winner, the British designed by silversmith Alex Brogden.
The works of Brogden have been exhibited internationally and are part of important collections, including that of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Craft Prize for LOEWE, the artist, who has created a double cup that celebrates the interaction between the earth and the other elements, says: ‘Being a contemporary craftsman are fully aware of the relationship we have with the materials. The way in which an object is made, it is for me as important as the object itself and is the basis of every good design creation. The LOEWE Craft Prize is a new platform that welcomes and emphasizes the value of handmade objects in a world where more and more rare. ”
The initiative was set up by creative director of LOEWE Jonathan Anderson to promote the importance of crafts in contemporary culture. To this end, the project seeks to highlight the creativity and manual skills of craftsmen from different fields.
Every professional – whose works of applied art in the context of ceramics, jewelry, lacquer, metalwork, furniture, textiles, glass and more – has the opportunity to participate in the competition in which each creation must be distinguished by a ‘innovative application of his art combined with an original artistic concept.
The winner, selected by a jury composed of distinguished experts in art and design, will receive a prize of 50,000 euros, as well as occupying a prominent position within the catalog and the exhibition ‘LOEWE Craft Prize 2017’, on display in the world alongside the works of the 14 finalists.
The competition, sponsored by LOEWE Foundation, is open to any professional craftsman who turned 18 years of age. Submissions will be accepted until November 7, 2016. Information on registration and requirements are available on www.loewecraftprize.com
The LOEWE FOUNDATION was established in 1988 as a cultural foundation, private by Enrique Loewe Lynch, a member of the 4th generation of the founding family of the LOEWE brand. Today, under the direction of Sheila Loewe, the foundation continues its mission in the promotion of creativity, training programs and historical preservation as part of poetry, dance, design, crafts, photography and architecture. In 2002, the foundation has received the Gold Medal of Merit for Fine Arts, the highest honor bestowed by the Spanish Government.

La LOEWE FOUNDATION svela il trofeo del LOEWE Craft Prize. Il premio verrà assegnato ogni anno all’autore di un’ opera artigianale, selezionata tra i lavori di concorrenti provenienti da tutto il mondo.

 La LOEWE FOUNDATION, creata inizialmente dalla maison come un collettivo di artigiani, attraverso questo premio, intende riconoscere il talento, la visione e le abilità specialistiche di artisti contemporanei che introdurranno standard innovativi per il futuro.

Sin dal suo annuncio, il premio ha registrato numerose iscrizioni, oltre che l’attenzione della comunità artistica e del design internazionale. La LOEWE FOUNDATION ha presentato il trofeo che sarà assegnato al vincitore, disegnato dall’argentiere britannico Alex Brogden.

Le opere di Brogden sono state esibite a livello internazionale e fanno parte di importanti collezioni, tra le quali quella del Victoria and Albert Museum di Londra. Per il Craft Prize di LOEWE, l’artista, che ha creato una doppia coppa che celebra l’interazione tra la terra e gli altri elementi, afferma:

‘Essendo un artigiano contemporaneo sono pienamente consapevole del rapporto che abbiamo con i materiali. Il modo in cui un oggetto viene realizzato, è per me tanto importante quanto l’oggetto stesso ed è alla base di ogni buona creazione di design. Il LOEWE Craft Prize è una nuova piattaforma che accoglie e mette in risalto il valore di oggetti artigianali in un mondo in cui sono sempre più rari”.

L’iniziativa è istituita dal direttore creativo di LOEWE Jonathan Anderson al fine di promuovere l’importanza dell’artigianato all’interno della cultura contemporanea. A tal fine, il progetto intende mettere in risalto la creatività e le abilità manuali di artigiani appartenenti a diversi campi.

Ogni professionista – le cui opere d’arte applicata nell’ambito di ceramica, gioielleria, laccatura, lavorazione di metalli, mobile, tessuti, vetro e non solo – ha la possibilità di partecipare al concorso nel quale ogni creazione dev’essere contraddistinta da un’applicazione innovativa della propria arte unita ad un concetto artistico originale.

Il vincitore, selezionato da una giuria composta da illustri esperti di arte e design, riceverà un premio di 50.000 Euro, oltre ad occupare una posizione di rilievo all’interno del catalogo e dell’esibizione ‘LOEWE Craft Prize 2017’, esposta in tutto il mondo a fianco dei lavori dei 14 finalisti.
