Interview with designer Liselore Frowijn

By Gioia Gange

When and how you decided that you wanted to be a designer

When I was very young and I discovered I could draw people.

It was your dream job?

Yes, and I’m still happy everyday that I’m living my dream.

Which is the first thing you designed and for who (yourself,a friend…)?

For an imaginary client in my ‘fashion atelier’ on the attic of my parents house.

Who’s the designer you admire the most and why?

Miuccia Prada, for her courage and Dries van Noten for his esthetics

Who’s your muse, your icon, when you create a dress?

A free woman; free of opinions and fear, so she wears everything she is passionate about; whether it’s colors or graphics or a mix of it all.

If you had to design an entire collection using just one color, which is the one you’d pick and why?

Difficult for me since I love many colors such as purple and orange and yellow and fuchsia. Though; If I have to choose it would be green; since it is my absolutely favorite color.

Who’s the first person you show your sketches to?

Pieter Eliens, one if my very best friends and a talented stylist.

The fabric you love the most…silk, lace, velvet and why?

Silk: it’s like a canvas for all my hand painted designs.

If your clothes had a soundtrack, which songs you’d choose?

Everything by Sakamoto

Do you have any trick to avoid that “blank page” moment when you’re at the beginning of the designing of a new collection? Do you watch a movie, flip an old magazine…

I never have a blank page, when the collection is almost finished I can already imagine a new vibe, a new journey to be started.

If you weren’t a designer which job in the fashion world you would like to do and why?

A textile designer; textiles are the most beautiful ingredients within fashion to create collections.
