Quando e come hai deciso che saresti voluta diventare una stilista?

Da sempre, la cosa che ho fatto con maggiore naturalezza è stato disegnare. Con la maturità ho aggiunto alla fantasia il metodo grazie a passione, innovativa visione e studio il passaggio dal desiderare di essere all’essere una designer  è stato naturale.

In principio ero una product designer poi mossa dall’innata curiosità e dopo una full immersion  in questo mondo creativo mi son accostata al fashion design, che era da sempre quello che mi incuriosiva di più.

A Venezia dopo lo stage alla Lotto, in cui ho lavorato nell’ufficio stile calzature e in cui ho iniziato ad accostarmi a tessuti e produzione,  vivendo e comprendendo quanto fosse farraginoso il mondo dell’industria, ho maturato la consapevolezza di voler lavorare in una realtà più vicina al mio modo di essere, dove energia e motivazioni si trovano nell’amore e nel fare.

Quindi la scelta della specialistica allo IUAV, dopo il primo anno in product ho cambiato definitivamente per il percorso in design della moda e mi sono dedicata anima e corpo ad approfondire quanto più possibile i miei studi teorici e pratici, dalla parte progettuale alla realizzazione.

Dalle nostre parti infatti si dice: chi non sa fare non sa comandare e quindi essere e sapere sono imprescindibili.

Era il lavoro dei tuoi sogni?

Nel mio immaginario c’è sempre stato un lavoro che mi permettesse di lavorare con le mani, creare qualcosa che sta tra effimero e tempo.. sembra un non senso, ma in realtà la creatività può essere intesa come immaginazione di possibilità, è saper immaginare il mondo che cambia.

Tutto il contrario di ciò che avviene in azienda quando spesso confrontandosi con il marketing  è difficile immaginare ciò che non esiste.

Nessun compromesso con la standardizzazione, con la logica del profitto ad ogni costo, solo volontà di coniugare la sapienza dell’antico artigianato con l’innovazione del gusto internazionale .

Qual è stata la prima cosa che hai creato e per chi?

Ovviamente un abito per la mia bambola, certamente la più bruttina.

Qual è lo stilista che ammiri di più e perché?

Te li elenco confusamente senza dare priorità a nessuno : Thom Browne, Rei Kawakubo, Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent, , Gabrielle Channel artisti diversi che amo per lo stesso motivo, la loro capacità di creare un immaginario estetico molto forte, coerente e riconoscibile.

Chi è la tua musa, la tua icona quando crei un vestito?

Non posso dire di avere una vera e propria musa, non una sola almeno. Ogni volta che immagino un capo ho in mente una donna diversa e un’attitudine differente…forse è anche un modo di proiettarmi in tanti immaginari, mi permette di superare i miei limiti ed essere sempre nuova e sempre diversa.

Se dovessi immaginare un’intera collezione usando un solo colore, quale sceglieresti e perchè?

Un non colore – il bianco-  essenziale a cui ritorno sempre quando voglio dare risalto a un taglio o a un volume, mi permette di disegnare un capo e far vibrare la sua essenza più profonda e vera.

Ma perché pensare ad una collezione di un colore?

Il materiale che ami di più…seta, pizzo, velluto e perchè?

Non ho un mio materiale di elezione, posso dire di amare tutti i materiali e nessuno in particolare…ognuno usato nella giusta maniera può essere bello.

A volte è il materiale che mi chiama o il suo effetto quando accostato ad un’altro, altre volte è l’effetto volumetrico ricercato che in automatico mi suggerisce quale scegliere.

 Aggiungerei che è importantissimo il tatto,  il piacere che va oltre l’impatto visivo, è innamorarsi di una sensazione sulla pelle e sulle mani.

Se i tuoi abiti avessero una colonna sonora, quale sarebbe?

Amo molto gli anni ’80 e un pezzo che ascolto spesso e che mi piace è “Girl just wanna have fun” di Cindy Lauper. Lei è stata un’icona di stile per un’intera generazione e lo è ancora oggi.

Amo questa canzone per l’atteggiamento irriverente e per il testo che suggeriscono una tacita complicità tra donne, rivendicando il loro diritto di autodeterminazione.  È quasi un inno femminista, ma in generale manifesto del diritto alla libertà personale.

Hai qualche trucco per superare il momento della “pagina bianca”?

C’è sempre una traccia sul mio foglio. Forse bisogna trovare il trucco per dire no a ciò che non piace fare.

Se non fossi una stilista quale altro lavoro nel mondo della moda ti piacerebbe fare e perchè?

Sempre nella moda, la restauratrice di abiti ma solo per approfondire conoscere toccare insomma sentire il tessuto e il tempo, la storia del costume, che ha segnato e delinea con esattezza tutta la storia dell’umanità. A tal proposito, sapevi che solo le nobildonne in epoca rinascimentale potevano vestire con colori?

When and how you decided you wanted to be a designer?

I’ve always wanted to be a designer, i’ve always drawn…it was a natural process. Growing up i’ve added a “method” to fantasy and so it was easy from dreaming and becoming a designer. First i was a product designer then little by little as soon as i started studying i started being more interested into the fashion world. The turning point was when i did an internship at Lotto, i worked at the shoes department in the style office and it was there that i started knowing a little bit more about fabrics and production process and i’ve understood that i wanted to be more close to the production. I kept on studying at IUAV but after the first year studying product design i changed my ming and started studying fashion design. I was interested in the planning part of fashion, i was into working not just behind a work desk but getting the most skill i could about drawing and creating a collection of clothes.

It was your dream job?

I’ve always seen myself working in a position where i could do things with my hands. Creativity as a mean of self expression and as an imaginative process, i think all of this is a plus value, its imagining an always changing world and not just being creative people who are “slaves” to the market. Sometimes that’s what happen in a company when talking with the marketing people it’s hard to imagine something that doesn’t exist yet.

Italian design in his golden years has always worked with medium to small industries, where designers and artisans worked close to each other and that’s why i’m proud to be an artisan in this world. All of this seems to be coming back.

Which was the first thing you’ve created and for whom?

Obviously a dress for my doll , certainly the most ugly .

Which is the designer that you admire the most and why? 

Thom Browne, Rei Kawakubo, Karl Lagerfeld. I love them for one reason, for their ability to create a very strong visual imagery , consistent and recognizable .

Who’s your muse when you’re creating a dress?

I can not say I have a real muse, not one at least . Whenever I imagine a boss have in mind a different woman , and different attitude…perhaps it is also a way to project myself in so many imaginary , allow me to exceed my limits and be always new and always different .

If you have to imagine an entire collection using a single color , which would you choose and why ?

A non-color – the essential white- who i always return to when I want to emphasize a cut or a volume , it allows me to draw a cloth and make it vibrate its essence more profound and true .
But why think of a collection of one color ?

The material you love the most…silk, lace, velvet and why ?

I have not my material of choice , I can say I love all the materials , and no one in particular … everyone used in the right way can be beautiful .

Sometimes it is the material that calls me or its effect when blended with another , other times it is the sophisticated volumetric effect that i search for which automatically suggests to me which one to choose .

I would add that it is important to feel the pleasure that goes beyond the visual impact , it means falling in love with a sensation on the skin and hands.

If your clothes had a soundtrack , what would it be ?

I love the 80s and a song that I listen often and love it’s “Girl just wanna have fun ” by Cindy Lauper . She has been a style icon for a generation and it still is today. I love this song for the irreverent attitude and for text that suggest a tacit complicity between women , claiming their right to self-determination. It is almost a feminist anthem, but in general it’s a manifesto of the right to personal freedom.

Do you have any trick to overcome the “blank page” moment ?

There is always a trace on my sheet. Maybe you need to find the trick to say no to what you do not like to do .

If you were not a designer what other work in the fashion world would you do and why ?

Always in fashion , the restorer of clothes but only to know and understand and feel the fabric and the time, the history of a costume , which marked and outlines with accuracy the history of mankind . In this regard , you know that only the noble women in the Renaissance could dress with colors ?
