From Berlin with Samira Klingenberg    

“I was born in Berlin so I am a real „Berliner“. I grew up in Kreuzbreg and this is the quarter where I still live.

I went to school in Berlin. After my high school diploma I wanted to do some experiences and see the world before going to University. I went to Swaziland (Africa) and did some social work there for around 7 month. Afterwards I traveled to Bolivia to support a friend of mine who worked in a school over there. Last stop was NYC where I did an internship for a couple of month.

Then I finally started going to University, studying languages and literature in Potsdam, but during my studies I went to University  in different places around the world such as Spain, Havana (Cuba) and Italy.

After getting my degree I started working in an agency in Berlin for a couple of years before joining zalando as a PR Manager where I am now for over 4 years”.

If you have to describe yourself with 3 words…which would they be?

Curious, wanderlust, make love not war! (that was more than 3 words, so as you see I don’t always follow the rules 😉

Which is your relationship with fashion? A must-have of your wardrobe?

Fashion is the fuel for my everyday life. It is surly not the only kind “fuel” of my life but it is a very important part and it makes everything more beautiful, such as art or good food. Fashion is a way to express your personality and it is something very personal. That’s why I don’t like judging people for their taste in fashion and I don’t have a problem with people that don’t like the way I dress. It’s like with art or good food: you would not judge somebody who loves beetroot just because you cannot stand it.

The must haves of my wardrobe are for sure oversize sweatshirt, midi skirts and shoes shoes shoes.

Your favorite outfit in winter? and in summer?

70’s maxi dress: in winter with plateau boots and in summer with sandals. Or flared pants: In winter with knit sweaters and in summer with off the shoulder shirts our blouses. What always works as well is heels in sock: in winter the socks would keep you warm and in summer it just looks good.

Which is your favorite designer and why?

I don’t have one favorite designer; there are so many awesome talents out there, with their own visons and styles. However, one of the “big” ones I really love is Consuelo Castiglioni. She founded Marni and still remains as the labels designer. She gave the brand its unique style and identity, without ever coming to a standstill. I love the quirky print s and the vintage inspired patterns, cuts and fabrics.

Your daily beauty routine?

I don’t have a particular daily beauty routine except showering and putting on make-up (and needing a lot of time to choose my outfit). I try to be careful with the products I use and use moisturizer based on organic ingredients. I don’t necessarily need lots of make-up but what I always use is concealer and mascara and blush if I look very tired.

What you like the most of your hometown?

Berlin is a tolerant city, a city which is full of all kinds of people, cultures and social backgrounds. I like living in this heterogeneous society, a society that tolerates different forms of living and is characterized by a spectrum of cultural and creative diversity

Let’s talk about the Berlin fashion world, which is you preferred store?

Berlin has a lot of small designer boutiques or pop up shops for all kind of individual styles, but of course also all big brands from Armani to Zara. One of my favorite Vintage stores is the Chrome Store in Neukölln where you can find awesome choices of vintage designer wear for men and women.

One of Berlin “classics” is the Voo Store, a concept store in Kreuzberg, which offers a big variety of interesting brands but is also a platform for music, design and art.

The best and the most chic restaurant of your town?

That is a very difficult questions since Berlin has thousands of great restaurants and it seems there are new ones every day. One of my personal favorites is for sure the Nudo in Kruezber. It is not particularly chic or fancy, but it has very good food for a convenient price. Berlin night life for you? How’s a typical nigh out…where do you start? The coolest place nowadays where to meet with your friends and have a drink?

To be honest I am not exactly what you call a party girl anymore. I am at so many different events for work that I prefer to take it easy during the weekends. I’d rather go and have Dinner and drinks with my friends then going to a night club. What is your relationship with social media? You cannot live without them or sometimes you wish you could turn everything off and live completely offline?

I am not totally crazy about all kinds of social media. There are some that I really like and some that I don’t use that much.  But I think they can be a real source of Inspiration and especially in my job they help me to stay in touch. I don’t feel the need of turning off everything and live completely without, but if I want to be offline for a while (on vacay for example) I just do it.

Zoe magazine was born and it is based in Italy, what do you like the most of our country?

I have a very strong connection to Italy. I not only studied and lived in Italy but I am also the PR Manager for Zalando Southern Europe, which includes Italy. That’s why I travel there very often for work and I spend a lot of time in Italy. I have a lot of Italian friends and colleagues and sometimes I do speak more Italian then German. I love Italy and I spent all of my summers there. No need to mention the food I guess ;).

“Sono nata a Berlino e sono quella che si dice una vera “Berliner”. Sono cresciuta a Kreuzberg e questo è il quartiere dove vivo tuttora. Dopo il diploma volevo fare un po’ di esperienza e girare il mondo prima di andare all’università. Sono stata in Swaziland (Africa) e ho fatto un po’ di volontariato lì per 7 mesi. Dopo sono stata in Bolivia a dare una mano a una mia amica che lavorava in una scuola. L’ultima tappa è stata NYC dove ho fatto uno stage di un paio di mesi. Poi sono finalmente andata all’università dove ho studiato lingue e letteratura a Postdam, durante il mio ciclo di studi ho studiato all’estero in Spagna, all’Havana e in Italia. Dopo la laurea ho lavorato in un’agenzia a Berlino per due anni e poi sono entrata a lavorare da Zalando come Pr Manager e lavoro lì da ormai 4 anni”.

Se dovessi descriverti con 3 parole?

Curiosa, giramondo, fate l’amore non fate la guerra! (si lo so sono più di 3 parole…ma ogni tanto non mi piace seguire le regole).

Qual è il tuo rapporto con la moda? Un capo must-have del tuo guardaroba?

La moda è il carburante della mia vita di tutti i giorni. Di sicuro non è l’unico carburante ma è davvero una parte importante e rende tutto più bello, come l’arte e il buon cibo. La moda è un modo di esprimere la tua personalità ed è qualcosa di molto personale. Ecco perchè non mi piace giudicare le persone per il loro gusto nel vestire e non ho certo problemi con le persone a cui non piace il mio modo di vestire. È come con l’arte o con il cibo: non puoi mica giudicare una persona a cui piacciono le barbabietole se tu non le sopporti. I must-have del mio guardaroba sono di sicuro le felpe oversize, le gonne longuette e le scarpe, scarpe, scarpe.

Il tuo outfit preferito in inverno? e d’estate?

I vestitoni anni 70’: da indossare d’inverno con gli stivali e d’estate con i sandali. I pantaloni a zampa: d’inverno con pull di maglia e d’estate con top che lasciano le spalle scoperte e bluse. Quello che funziona sempre per me sono i tacchi con le calze: d’inverno le calze ti tengono calda e d’estate sono comunque fichissime.

Qual è il tuo stilista preferito e perchè?

Non ne ho uno preferito; ci sono così tanti talenti in giro, con le loro visioni e i loro stili. Uno dei miei amori di sempre è Consuelo Castiglioni. Ha fondato Marni ed è ancora a capo del brand a cui ha dato il suo stile unico e la sua identità senza mai ripetersi. Amo le stampe e i pattern vintage, i tagli e i tessuti.

La tua beauty routine?

Non ho una mia vera e propria beauty routine a parte una bella doccia e il make-up (e un sacco di tempo poi per scegliere il mio outfit). Sto molto attenta con i prodotti che uso e scelgo una crema idratante di tipo organic. Non metto molto make-up a dire il vero ma i miei must-have sono un buon correttore e il mascara e un po’ di fard se ho un visto molto stanco.

Cosa ti piace di più della tua città?

Berlino è una città tollerante, che accoglie tutti, una città popolata da un sacco di persone, culture e background diversi. Mi piace vivere in una società così eterogenea, una società che tollera le più diverse forme del vivere e che è caratterizzata da uno spettro culturale molto ampio e pieno di creatività.

Parliamo della Berlino fashion, qual è il tuo store preferito?

Berlino ha un sacco di piccole boutique di designer o pop up shop per qualunque tipo di stile, ma anche store di brand come Armani e Zara. Uno dei miei negozi vintage preferiti è Chrome Store a Neukölln  dove puoi trovare un sacco di scelta sia per uomo che per donna. Un classico berlinese è poi Voo Store, un concept store a Kreuzberg con un sacco di brand interessanti e che è anche un luogo di ritrovo per la musica, il design e l’arte in generale.

Il ristorante migliore e il più chic della tua città?

Domanda difficile, molto difficile perché Berlino ha centinaia di ottimi ristoranti e sembra che ne nascano di nuovi praticamente ogni giorno. Uno dei miei preferiti è di sicuro Nudo a Kreuzberg, non è particolarmente chic o modaiolo ma propone dell’ottimo cibo e ha anche prezzi convenienti. A essere sincera non mi considero più una “party girl”… per lavoro partecipo a così tanti eventi che nel weekend mi piace fare una cosa più tranquilla. Di solito magari prima andiamo a cena e poi per qualche drink con gli amici e a fine serata in qualche night club. Che rapporto hai con i social media? Non puoi vivere senza o a volte preferiresti spegnere tutto e vivere un po’ offline?

Non sono proprio quello che si dice una fissata con i social media…alcuni mi piacciono e li uso ed altri che conosco ma non uso granché. Di sicuro possono essere una fonte di ispirazione e specialmente nel mio lavoro mi permettono di rimanere in contatto con moltissime persone. Non posso dire di sentire l’esigenza di spegnere tutto…e rinunciarvi in toto ma se voglio stare un po’ offline (ad esempio in vacanza) metto tutto da parte per un po’.

Zoe Magazine è nato e ha la sua base in Italia, cosa ti piace di più della nostra nazione?

Ho un legame molto forte con l’Italia, non solo ho studiato e vissuto qui ma essendo PR Manager per Zalando Europa del sud ovviamente lavoro molto con l’Italia. Ecco perchè sono spesso in Italia per lavoro e ci trascorro un bel po’ di tempo durante l’anno. Ho un sacco di amici e colleghi di lavoro e mi capita a volte di parlare più italiano che tedesco. Amo l’Italia e sono qui ogni estate per le vacanze…e poi come dimenticare il cibo :-)?
