I like the creativity it gives you, waves are always different and you have to adapt to them every time, being able to adapt is something important in life and I think surfing develops that.

What do you like most about surfing compared to other sports?

I like the creativity it gives you, waves are always different and you have to adapt to them every time, being able to adapt is something important in life and I think surfing develops that.

How, where and why did you start practicing this sport?

I started at about 5 years old because Im from the french surf town of Biarritz but also my dad was a professional surfer and my mum surfed too so growing up and watching them I always wanted to do the same.

How is your connection with nature? What do you think of the state of the environment today?

I’m in direct contact with nature in the sport I practice so I do notice little things like if the water levels rise, if the water is polluted because of the rain or trash, or if the weather has different patterns over the years. I think we’ve made a big mess with the environment but it’s not easy to make real changes with our habits, for example it’s hard to live and work without a car, without using plastic and producing trash, etc etc. It’s going to take a long time to change the way we live!

What is your ideal “spot” for surfing and why its so special?

I like surfing the beach breaks around home (between Biarritz and Hossegor), the waves have some power and give you a lot of speed, they are fast and always a bit unpredictable.

If you had to persuade someone with three words to surf, what would you say?

Don’t do it.

What is your relationship with fashion? You have your own style, you like to play with clothes and fashion?

Growing up I’ve never been really into fashion, I was too busy surfing, playing music etc and I never really paid attention to it. But with the years I’ve realized the outfit Im wearing plays a lot in the way I feel, my confidence, my thoughts etc. It’s almost like the items you put in your home, they make you feel good (or bad) in they’re own way. I try to wear whatever makes me feel like myself. I wear mostly Roxy as they are my sponsor but sometimes I sneak into the Quiksilver section 🙂 and I have different pairs of Vans for every situation. I’m glad my sponsors make clothe I like.

Your relationship with social, photos, instagram ..? You cannot live without it…or sometimes you prefer to be “off line”?

My approach to social media is a bit of a mix between keeping up with my friends and using it as a work tool. As a pro surfer, my sponsors pay a lot of attention to what I post, so I try to put my creativity into creating cool content for them. It can be a great way to express yourself if you have fun with it. But I don’t like being on my phone all the time so I try not to overdo it.
If you had to give away your favorite board, who would you like to donate?

Probably someone who will surf if all the time, like one of those groms who surf 20 hours a day.

The last question, perhaps a little ironic: ZOE means  “life”  in greek… what would it be your ideal place to live?

Having my own spaceship that runs on solar, I’d just sleep in it and go visit my friends all over the world, park in their garden for a few weeks  at a time 🙂 But if thats not doable I like the Basque country :-).
