Qual è stata la prima foto che ti hanno fatto e qual è stata la prima impressione dopo il primo photo-shoot?

Il primo che, a parte la mia famiglia e gli amici, mi ha scattato delle foto è stato Yannis Nikolaou, che è ora il mio agente a Place Models. È lui che mi ha scoperto e mi ha scattato le prime foto digitali quando sono arrivata in agenzia. Il mio primo shooting è stato un editoriale molto bello con un super team di lavoro, il fotografo era molto ispirato e la sua energia era contagiosa. Ho subito imparato che fare la modella significa lavorare duramente sia dal punto di vista emotivo che fisico ma ne vale la pena :-).

Cos’hai imparato lavorando come modella?

Ho imparato a prendermi meglio cura di me stessa e di ascoltare quello che mi dice il mio corpo e di essere sempre concentrata e attenta anche quando viaggio. Un mantra che mi aiuta molto è ” where we go, there we are” (Jon Kabat-Zinn). Di sicuro si impara molto comunicando con persone che sono più grandi di te, il confronto è la cosa più interessante.

Cos’è la cosa che ti piace di più e quella che ti piace di meno del tuo lavoro?

Mi piace quasi tutto del lavoro…gli shooting o la passerella, mi piace essere circondata da persone creativi e assorbire la loro energia e la loro ispirazione. Mi piace moltissimo viaggiare e visitare posti nuovi anche se a volte ci si sente piuttosto soli e questa è la cosa che mi piace di meno.

Dove sei andata con il tuo lavoro? qual è la tua città preferita?

Ho tantissimi ricordi di tante nazioni e paesi…ho visitato l’Indonesia e il Giappone ma a volte anche i posti che a prima vista non sembrano chissà chè spesso sono quelli che ti sorprendono, una volta abbiamo fatto un servizio fotografico in una fattoria a New York ed era un posto magnifico. Se devo dirti una città direi Los Angeles… 

La cosa più strana o divertente che ti è capitata?

Ah ah di sicuro quando ho starnutito in passerella…è stato uno spasso. Sul set c’è sempre qualcosa di strano o curioso e sono le cose che poi non si vedono nelle foto…ad esempio indossare degli UGG sotto a un vestito super elegante. Mi piacciono anche quegli shooting dove succedono cose strane tipo quando mi hanno avvolto di pellicola e poi ricoperta da secchiate di vernice…era difficile mantenere una faccia convincente ma alla fine mi è piaciuto un sacco.

Il tuo lavoro è anche fatto di attese…aspettare per il trucco e il parrucco o ai casting…come trascorri questi tempi morti?

Di solito chiacchiero sempre con il make up artist o il parrucchiere perchè sono contenta di poter parlare comunque con qualcuno :-).

Che rapporto hai con la moda? hai un tuo stile o segui le ultime tendenze?

All’inizio non ero proprio un’appassionata di moda ma ogni volta che riesco a sbirciare le mood board degli stilisti rimango incantata…è un modo per capire cosa pensa uno stilista e cosa l’ha portato a disegnare quella collezione. Per quanto mi riguarda se una collezione ti tocca e ti fa pensare è al pari di qualunque altra arte, come la musica o la pittura.

Che rapporto hai con i social media? non puoi farne a meno o preferisci ogni tanto essere off-line?

Sono assolutamente anti-social media ;-)…non ho neanche Facebook, per quanto riguarda Instagram ci sto provando a capirlo, anche perchè è ormai parte del nostro lavoro.

Progetti per il futuro? qual è il tuo lavoro dei sogni?

Sono eccitata da tutti i lavori futuri ma se devo essere sincera aspetto con ansia le prime rughe così che possa tornare al College ;-)…ma sono comunque grata per il mio lavoro :-).

Which was the first picture that someone took of you? Your impression about the first picture…the first photo shoot.

The first time somebody else except my family and friends took pictures of me was Yannis Nikolaou, my agent now, from Place models. He is the one who scouted me and he took some digitals the first time I visited my agency. And  my  first  real shoot was a cool editorial with a super motivated team and amazing styling. The photographer was pretty inspired and his energy was just contagious. I learned that modelling is hard work, emotionally and physically, but it’s definitely worth it.

What have you learned from working as a model?

I have learned to take better care of myself and to listen to what my body tells me I need. Also I have learned to be more mindful even when traveling. A mantra that really helps is ‘where we go, there we are’ (Jon Kabat-Zinn) And for sure you learn a lot from the communication with people who are older than you, it´s very interesting

What is the thing you like the most and the least about modeling?

I really like the actual jobs, like shootings or a show itself. I like being surrounded by inspired people and watching them think and feel. Also I like getting to travel to new places, yet it can be quite lonely, so this is the worst part.

Where have you traveled with modeling? What has been your favorite city to visit?

I have great memories of so many amazing countries I got to visit e.g. Indonesia or Japan but sometimes the closer less fancy ones can be surprising too, like this lovely farmhouse upstate New York I once shot at. When it comes to cities I really liked LA though…

The weirdest or funniest thing that happened on a set?

I think the funniest thing that happened to me is when I sneezed on the runway, that was just hilarious. On set it’s almost always a little weird, it’s the things you don’t see in the pictures. Like wearing uggs with an incredibly fancy dress. I love these really weird shoots though where they wrap you in foil and throw watercolour on you. It’s hard to keep a straight face but I love it.

Modeling is also about waiting – waiting for you make up, hair done…. how do you spend your “waiting time” ?

I always try to make conversation with the hair and make up artists because I’m happy to actually get the chance to talk to other human beings haha.

What is your relationship with fashion? Do you have your own style, do you like to play with clothes and colors?

Well at first I wasn’t really into fashion but whenever I sneak a peek on the designer’s mood boards I get totally awestruck and excited because it shows what the designers felt, what the collection means to them. I think if a collection touches you and evokes something in your mind, it is on a par with music, thus, arts. 

Your relationship with social media, photos, “Instagram”…?

You cannot live without it or sometimes you prefer to be “offline”? I’m absolutely not into social media, I’m not even on Facebook. Instagram became part of our jobs though, so I’m trying to get into it.

What are you excited about doing next? What is your next dream job?

I’m excited for all the jobs coming up but I’m already looking forward to get my first wrinkles so I can go back to college 😉 But i am really grateful to have this amazing opportunity
