Interview with Tiko Paksashvili from the brand Materiel

When and how you decided that you wanted to be a designer?

I have dreamed to be a designer from childhood. I have always liked fashion industry, have always been creating some stuff and when became an adult decided to study design in the Academy of Arts.

It was your dream job?

I have not thought about my dream job yet.

Which is the first thing you designed and for who (yourself,a friend…)?

The first thing I designed was a dress for my sister, we were both very excited.

Who’s the designer you admire the most and why?

I admire Phoebe Philo, because she always creates minimalism with innovations.

Who’s your muse, your icon, when you create a dress?

I do not have a muse or icon, I always create depending on my inspiration, that can be a subject, real or imaginary.

If you had to design an entire collection using just one color, which is the one you’d pick and why?

I already had one collection only white and I would choose it again, because every color is white.

Who’s the first person you show your sketches to?

There is no specific person, I show it to my friends and to those whose opinion and advice are important to me.

The fabric you love the most…silk, lace, velvet and why?

Organza, because the greatest depth is in transparency.

If your clothes had a soundtrack, which songs you’d choose?

At the moment, I would chose a sound of the Earth.

Do you have any trick to avoid that “blank page” moment when you’re at the beginning of the designing of a new collection? Do you watch a movie, flip an old magazine…

Well, yes, it may be a music, or a movie, or an environment, that helps me to concentrate while creation.

If you weren’t a designer which job in the fashion world you would like to do and why?

In order to show collection correctly one needs to have inner aesthetics, that will bring the image and inspiration of the collection outside, so a lot depends on models themselves and because of this I would have become a model.
