Interview with the designer Keti Chkhikvadze
When and how you decided that you wanted to be a designer?
The first dress I made for myself when I was 6. My grandmom and my mom both wanted to be designers and used to make dresses for themselves, I guess this influenced me and after finishing school I entered Georgian academy of Art
It was your dream job?
Yes, it was my dream job
Which is the first thing you designed and for who (yourself,a friend…)?
It was a dress for myself.
Who’s the designer you admire the most and why?
There are many designers I admire but the first name I have in my mind Balmain: elegant, classical and chic.
Who’s your muse, your icon, when you create a dress?
I do not have any muse or icon
If you had to design an entire collection using just one color, which is the one you’d pick and why?
In general the colour i like most is black but i already had one-color summer collection in 2011 and it was white
Who’s the first person you show your sketches to?
As a rule i show my sketches to my sister who is also designer and works with me
The fabric you love the most…silk, lace, velvet and why?
I love to work specifically with velvet linen and silk but i usually use all types of fabric in my collections
If your clothes had a soundtrack, which songs you’d choose?
It would be definitely some Georgian songs.
Do you have any trick to avoid that “blank page” moment when you’re at the beginning of the designing of a new collection? Do you watch a movie, flip an old magazine…
Watching old movies and magazines is my favorite activity and certainly helps a lot in my profession, however before starting a new collection i am just looking at fabrics for.
If you weren’t a designer which job in the fashion world you would like to do and why
Interior design, in fact this is my second job and i love it!
