Le parole “conformarsi ‘,’ controllo ‘e’ limitare ‘costituiscono la spina dorsale della collezione SS16 di Matthew Miller’, che emerge dalla frustrazioni del designer con la burocrazia ei sistemi che applicano questo sistema di controllo.

Le uniformi che ne risultano nella collezione si muovono e si contorcono intorno alla forma umana, e rappresentano la rigidità della vita contemporanea e le restrizioni alla nostra libertà di movimento.

Come tale l’abbigliamento è una moltitudine di incontri e scontri di texture giustapposte, con una palette neutra borderline che si presenta come un riflesso distorto dei colori dell’abbigliamento tipico degli uomini d’ affari. Tutti i materiali utilizzati si fondono con l’estetica che è il risultato delle preoccupazioni di Matthews  con la praticità di utilizzo di tutti i giorni. Una miscela di cotone e metallo, sorprendentemente fluido in movimento, tessuti stropicciati accarezzano il corpo.

Come nelle precedenti stagioni, Matthew ha collaborato con manifatture di altissimo livello per creare gli accessori di ogni look. Le cravatte sono di Marwood London, la cui dedizione e attenzione ai dettagli riflettono perfettamente quelli di Matthew. Le scarpe sono state disegnate da Matthew per Robert Clergerie e realizzate nel loro atelier francese.

The words ‘Conform’, ‘Control’ and ‘Restrict’ form the backbone of Matthew Millers’ SS16 collection, emerging from the designer’s frustrations with red tape and the systems that enforce this uniquely modern restraint.

The resulting uniforms of today’s collection twist and contort around the human form, representing the rigidity of contemporary life and the restrictions on our freedom and movement.

As such the clothing is a multitude of clashing textures juxtaposed with a restrained, borderline neutral palette that acts as a distorted reflection of the colours of business attire. All materials used merge the aesthetic that has resulted from Matthew’s abstract concerns with the practicality of everyday use. A blend of cotton and metal appears to be coarse and brittle but is surprisingly fluid in motion, whilst distressed and creased linen contorts the body.

As in previous seasons, Matthew has collaborated with heritage craftsmen to create the accessories that unite each look. The ties are by Marwood London, whose dedication to craft, detail and construction mirrors Matthew’s own. The shoes were designed by Matthew for Robert Clergerie and assembled at their French workshop.
