LITKOVSKAYA new Fall-Winter 15-16 collection is inspired by Hokusai exhibition recently presented at the Grand-Palais in Paris. It is a study on classical Japanese culture perception through the prism of Western tradition. The collection explores opposition of the past and the present, the natural and the automatic, the ornamental and the urban. Drawing inspiration from Hokusai’s etchings, Lilia Litkovskaya reworks the elicate floral motives in the signature dynamic manner. Rhythmic patterns in orange red cover up loose robe-dresses with graphic appliqués in delicate black silk. Paper fans are transformed into chaotic swirls of frills with raw seams left unfinished. An old kimono embellishment is reworked into two-dimensional color patchwork on oversized coats. Delicate sleeveless dresses with exaggerated belts are worn over utilitarian turtlenecks in asphalt black stretchy suede leather. This season Litkovskaya explores traditional kimono, reworking it into voluminous wide-sleeved graphic coats and asymmetric dresses with scarlet bra attached over layers of black silk. The ideas behind these garments are expectably dual – a massive double-sided coat with muff-sleeves doubles as a nightgown in delicate polka dot silk. A reversible fine cashmere sweatshirt with exaggerated sleeves is lined with rich golden jacquard.

To counterpoint the excessive decorum LITKOVSKAYA introduces a series of minimal pieces inspired by the Western workwear basics. Navy blue denim used in loose tops and high-waisted flared pants appear to be fine wool. Graphic pantsuits and dress-shirts in classic pinstripe acquire distorted shapes and lengths. Rich boucle wool used in fitted jackets and skirts reminds of traditional French tweeds and hot volcanic lava. The collection’s highlight is a series of looks in bonded scarlet silk. Lilia Litkovskaya introduces asymmetric tops and dresses as if made of industrial tape and cigarette pants with aggressive cuffs. The collection is completed with massive shoes in black vinyl leather and delicate accessories encrusted with raw precious pearls.
