De Djess Miu Miu Women’s Tales #9    

De Djess è un corto (tecnicamente non è un lungo metraggio) ma ha dentro una quantità di stimoli e suggestioni che il termine “corto” forse non è abbastanza, è un “corto”…lungo e soprattutto pieno, la bellezza di un’opera è data anche da quanto il mondo da essa raccontato risulta credibile, di quanto chi guarda riesca a entrare in questo mondo e il mondo di De Djess è immediatamente “incredibile” e “reale” allo stesso tempo.

De Djess è diretto da Alice Rohrwacher e rappresenta il 9 film della serie Miu Miu Women’s Tales, la serie diretta da donne che celebrano criticamente la femminilità nel 21° secolo.

Questo ultimo episodio evoca il mondo surreale dell’ordinario e le sue eccezionalità e eccezioni che la regista ha in parte raccontato nei suoi due precedenti film Corpo Celeste (2011) e The Wonders che ha vinto a  Cannes il Grand Prix (2014).

De Djess è pieno di domande, a partire dalla lingua parlata che pur essendo inventata riusciamo tutti a capire immediatamente e poi…perchè le bionde svengono? Perché l’attrice famosa (interpretata dalla sorella della regista Alba Rohrwacher) è così arrabbiata?

Questo nuovo corto aggiunge una nuova tonalità e un nuovo sguardo alla serie Miu Miu Women’s Tales: un mondo capovolto in cui gli oggetti scelgono i proprietari e non il contrario come avviene nella realtà di tutti i giorni.

La regista ci racconta “Ho pensato fosse giusto dare il ruolo principale a un vestito e mettermici dentro”. La collezione Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2015 trova un interprete d’eccezione nel vestito “Number 328”che ha letteralmente una sua vita con i suoi gusti e le sue scelte…è come se improvvisamente la scarpetta di Cenerentola potesse dire la sua e scegliere per la prima volta e non essere scelta e tutti dovrebbero ascoltarla finalmente.

De Djess is directed by Alice Rohrwacher. It’s the ninth commission from Miu Miu Women’s Tales, the acclaimed short-film series by women who critically celebrate femininity in the 21st century.

This latest addition to Women’s Tales evokes the surreal world of ordinariness and exceptions that Rohrwacher has conjured in her two acclaimed feature films, Corpo Celeste (2011) and the Cannes Grand Prix (2014) winning The Wonders, which has been described as, “an ensemble drama about Italy’s evaporating peasant culture, rooted in rural wisdom”.

“I want in my films to pose questions,” Rohrwacher admits, “not to offer answers.”
De Djess is full of questions, posed in a fictional language that we can all still miraculously understand. Why are the blond women fainting? Why is the famous actress (played by the director’s sister and regular lead, Alba Rohrwacher) so upset? And why do all the cameras suddenly run out of power at exactly the same time?

This new short adds another tender tonality to the Miu Miu Women’s Tales series: a mirrored world where objects choose owners instead of the other way around.

Rohrwacher explains, “I felt it was right to give the lead role to a dress, and put myself inside”. The Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2015 collection finds its expression most articulatedly in dress “Number 328”, which literally has a life of its own, and a taste for women’s beauty that is less obvious and more ingenious. Dress 328 sees something in the lowly waitress girl (played by Yanet Mojica). It’s as if the glass slipper from Cinderella could speak. Everyone would listen.
