Children from five partnering schools–P.S. 196, Bronx; P.S. 45, Queens; P.S. 16, Staten Island; P.S. 139, Brooklyn; and P.S. 75, Manhattan–have also created special “Dolly” shoe artworks. “Studio in a School truly thanks India for creating Stepping Up for Art,” said Thomas Cahill, President & CEO of Studio in a School. “She is inspirational; even more so, since her peers, N.Y.C. high school students, will be some of the beneficiaries of the project she developed on her own. In addition, we are so appreciative that Charlotte Olympia has donated shoes so that classes participating in Studio programs, one in each borough, could share in and enjoy the creative process that the professional artists experienced. We are so grateful to the twenty artists, Charlotte Olympia, and Gagosian Gallery for presenting the amazing work of the artists and sharing the exhibition with the public, and to India for helping us foster the creative abilities of the city’s youth.”

About Studio in a School
Since 1977, Studio in a School has enriched the lives of over 800,000 children in New York City’s five boroughs with the creativity of the visual arts. Studio in a School’s unique method brings professional artists into schools and community organizations to lead classes in drawing, printmaking, painting and sculpting, and works with teachers to link art with other academic subjects.
Studio in a School provides programs to more than 150 schools throughout the five boroughs. Every year, over 80 professional artists devote some 45,000 hours to almost 30,000 Pre-K through high school students. About 90% of the children who participate in our programs come from low-income homes.
