Carmela Gulino nasce a Petralia Soprana nel 1980.

Frequenta l’istituto magistrale e l’Accademia delle Belle Arti di Palermo e la sua attivita’ artistica inizia nel 2000.

Carmela Gulino was born in Palermo in 1980.

She attended the Teaching Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo and her artistic career began in 2000.

La sua pittura e’ un modo per esprimere la sua realta’ interiore , la sua essenza di donna che va’ oltre la fisicita’ delle cose e, probabilmente proprio per questo, il fulcro della sua produzione e’ la figura femminile .

Her painting is a way to express her reality, the inner essence of woman who goes beyond the physical things, and maybe for this the focus of her production is the women figures .

Fin da subito, sono la figura umana ed il volto ad incuriosire l’artista, portandola a sperimentare nuove espressioni e tecniche pittoriche .

From the beginning, are the human figure and face to intrigue the artist, bringing her to experiment with new expressions and painting techniques.

Nella prima parte della sua produzione artistica i corpi raffigurati esprimono una forte carica erotica e sensuale, attraverso l’uso di cromie dinamiche e violente, a tratti inquietanti ed angosciose.

In the first part of her artistic production depicted the bodies express a strong erotic and sensual, through the use of dynamic colors and violent, at times disturbing and distressing.

Successivamente, la ricerca espressiva sui corpi ed i volti viene approfondita grazie alle “pitto- fotografie”, fotografie su cui l’artista inserisce delle pennellate di colore.

Subsequently, the expressive research on bodies and faces is deepened thanks to the “paint-photography”, photography in which the artist puts brush strokes of color.

Da questa fase creativa, l’artista inizia a dipingere i suoi soggetti stagliandoli su fondi bianco e nero ,ritratti ed autoritratti che per la tecnica esecutiva ed i forti chiaroscuri utilizzati sembrano proprio richiamare l’impostazione figurativa della fotografia ed il suo verismo.

From this latest research, the artist began to paint faces on black and white bottoms , portraits and self-portraits that make use of the techniques and of the strong light and shade ,look like recall the setting of the photography and its figurative realism.

Le giovani donne ritratte sono donne contemporanee, specchio di un universo emotivo e sentimentale.

Young women portrayed are contemporary women, reflecting a emotional and sentimental universe.

Queste ultime produzioni fanno da ago della bilancia tra la prime opere prodotte e quelle piu’ recenti in cui l’artista inizia ad utilizzare la figura umana non solo nella sua fisicita’ ma come contenitore di emozioni.

These productions are the balance of power between the first works produced and the more recent, in which the artist begins to use the human figure not only in his physicality but as a container for emotions.

Per questo, dopo una breve parentesi di opere ispirate alla mitologia greca in chiave sarcastica e moderna, inizia un nuovo ciclo figurativo chiamato “Souls” “Anime”, tele di grande formato in cui i corpi iniziano a dissolvere i loro contorni grazie ad una sorta di osmosi tra interno ed esterno, una contaminazione ottenuta dal colore che infrange gli argini della figura stessa attraverso sgocciolature e schizzi.

For this, after a brief period of work inspired by Greek mythology in modern key and sarcastic, begins a new figurative cycle called “Souls” “Anime”, large canvases in which the bodies begin to dissolve their outlines thanks to a sort of exchange between internal and external , blending obtained from the color that breaks the outline of the figure through drips and splashes.
