Charlize Theron is an actress and a producer. She was born in Benoni in South Africa, where she grew up on the family farm and was then dedicated to her first love, ballet. She trained at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York until she suffered a knee injury and had to abandon her dance career. With the support of her mother, she moved to Los Angeles where she landed her first roles in Hollywood productions. Her reputation was established in 2003, when she won the Oscar for Best Actress, the Golden Globe the Screen Actors Guild Award as well as the Berlin Festival Silver Bear award for Best actress, for her portrayal of criminal Aileen Wuornos in the Patty Jenkins film, Monster. Having shot to international stardom, her career continued with performances in striking films such as Young Adult by Jason Reitman (2011), Prometheus by Ridley Scott (2012), Mad Max: Fury Road by George Miller (2015), Atomic Blonde by David Leitch (2017) and more recently, Fast and Furious 10 by Louis Leterrier (2023). In 2024 she will be appearing in The Old Guard 2 by Victoria Mahoney.
Charlize Theron was named a “United Nation Messenger of Peace” for her work in supporting the prevention of HIV / AIDS and the elimination of violence against women. In 2007 she founded the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP), a foundation that advances the health and safety of youth in Southern Africa. Christian Dior has been supporting this work with her since 2020 through the “Chin Up – Dior stands with women” initiative.
