The Miu Miu Upcycled initiative, born in 2020, celebrates the precious nature of vintage garments and promotes the practice of circular design. The value of history, of timeless beauty, is handed down to enrich the present and the future.
For this collection, the original garments have been recovered thanks to the meticulous research of experts in the field; they are unstitched and then reassembled with the addition of natural suede edgings with white seams.
The remodeled jeans are soft and low on the hips, while the scarf tops and micro-shorts are shortened and cut, following the iconic silhouette of the Miu Miu prêt-à-porter. The snap buttons – carefully removed and then reinserted – are engraved with the Miu Miu brand.
In blouson jackets the shape is also modified and shortened. The central buttons are replaced by suede edgings and a front zip.
The Miu Miu Upcycled campaign is captured by the lens of photographer Tarek Cassim starring models Ana Elisa Brito, Wenqing Liu and Alice McGrath. The images, cut out in a series of collage-style portraits, recall the Upcycled design process by Miu Miu, revealing the product and the characters who wear it.
