Christie’s Watches unveils Global Calendar for first half of 2024 Beginning new auction season from strongest ever position
8 live and 7 online sales in Hong Kong, Dubai, Geneva and New York
At Christie’s the watch segment remains vibrant, with 15 live and online auctions in the four corners of the watch world scheduled for the year, with 8 in the first half alone. Kicking off the Spring 2024 season, Watches Online: The Hong Kong Edit from 14 to 27 March promises to set the tone for an exciting year ahead, demonstrating Christie’s focus on creating a unique experience for all buyer profiles and satisfying the most discerning collectors.
Emmanuel Danan, Christie’s Global Managing Director, Luxury, commented: “2023 defined a standout year for Luxury with record growth across all departments. Together, Watches, Jewellery, Handbags and Wine contributed $1.0B to Christie’s annual global auction results, achieving the strongest ever departmental sales total. Watches alone contributed US$234 million, representing the highest annual result ever achieved for the category. Whether the watches event is live or online, a key focus is to ensure seamless access to our auctions as we cater for a global clientele operating in physical and digital spaces. Patek Philippe’s ‘Sky Moon’ which sold online in Hong Kong at US$5.8 million is a strong indicator of the shift that is underway and gaining momentum, also due to 38% of Christie’s global watch clients being millennials. Christie’s caters for established as well as novice collectors by offering fine vintage timepieces and unique independent watchmaker pieces with varying price levels. This is a testament to the strong existing relationships between Christie’s and the watch community active in the world’s key markets.”
