The HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE AW24 collection – “Immersed in the Wilds of Creativity” – explores the translation of sources of inspiration into the creation of clothes, reflecting on the relationship between the concept and its actual realization. The interpretation of the elements goes beyond their transformation into prints and patterns. The work of art itself acts as an ingredient to be used for the design and creation of the collection, giving life to a harmonious creative process.

A project with Ronan Bouroullec:
The “creative session” between HOMMÉ PLISSE ISSEY MIYAKE and the designer/artist Ronan Bouroullec is a project in which the brand’s design team approached its drawings not as a simple portfolio of works to be admired as art, but instead capturing the opportunity to explore different materials to play with freely. Bouroullec’s great knowledge of the brand and its creative process made the exchanges that inspired this collection possible.

“Working with the design team was an extraordinary experience, during this creative session I was able to discover what my work has in common with clothing design and what differentiates it from it. And it is precisely the synergy as well as the distance between us that makes the project fascinating and satisfying.” Ronan Bouroullec

The RB_DRAWING PLEATS WB series features Ronan Bouroullec’s representative group of works called “Drawing”, integrated into the brand’s iconic pleats. The design explores the relationship between dress and drawing by transforming the white space of the original work into the shape of the clothes themselves. The shades of the pleat enhance the deep colors and delicate brushstrokes.

The RB_DRAWING SCARF series is inspired by the elements depicted in the “Drawing” series. The various models are knitted with multicolored threads and have holes that allow them to be worn in various ways, creating wearable art.

The RB_DRAWING COAT series is characterized by a light fabric on which Bouroullec’s work has been carefully reproduced using screen printing with multiple separate plates for each shade, respecting the depth of color and delicacy of the original work. Both the coat and the poncho have a simple design that enhances the vibrancy of the artist’s work.

The shirts of the RB_EMROIDERY SHIRT series are in natural fabric and characterized by the embroidery depicting Bouroullec’s work “Stylo-Bille” (ballpoint pen). Each model is designed to enhance the vivid colors and organic shapes of the original work. embroidery is characterized by a thread slightly outside the contours of the original designs so as to emphasize their dynamism.

RB_ALL OVER PLEATS depicts Bouroullec’s “All Over” series. The original design is characterized by countless lines that give life to a motif in which one has the impression of being able to immerse oneself, canceling the distance. To best reproduce the work of the French artist/designer, sleeves, shoulders and hems have been lengthened so that the garment can be wrapped around the body.

RB_STYLO-BILLE CUSHION COAT features a patch pocket inside which the garment can be folded, transforming into a cushion. The Gobelins weave depicts the work “Stylo-Bille”, created by the artist with a ballpoint pen. On the cushion the colors of the print are faithful to the original, while when worn as a coat the colors are reversed creating a different color scheme.

OVERFLOW declines the shapes and silhouettes proposed by the RB_ALL OVER PLEATS series in a monochromatic palette. As in the printed version, these voluminous garments can be rolled around the body or left open for greater freedom of movement.
