AN INTERVIEW WITH MAKEUP ARTIST ANGELA LEVIN

WHAT WERE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION FOR MAKEUP?
For Nicole’s Met Gala look this year, my inspiration was CHANEL: iconic, timeless, admired, elegant and playful, just like her.

CAN YOU SHARE ANY TIPS ABOUT LOOK?
I started by hydrating Nicole’s clean face and neck with CHANEL N°1 de CHANEL Revitalizing Serum. After letting it settle for few minutes, I then used the CHANEL N°1 de CHANEL Rich Revitalizing Cream.

I applied CHANEL N°1 de CHANEL Revitalizing Foundation in B20 with a round brush (my go-to is CHANEL Les Pinceaux de CHANEL Foundation-Blending Brush N°102) on the face and neck, making sure to get an even application. With CHANEL Le Correcteur de CHANEL Longwear Concealer in B20, I based the eye area and side of the nose for extra coverage.

To make Nicole’s beautiful blue eyes pop, I used CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette in Deep. I applied each color almost like a rainbow to her eyelid. I blended the darkest shade into her lash line, then added the medium shade to her crease, and ended with the lightest shade on her brow bone. With CHANEL Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Noir Intense, I lined and smudged the upper lash line and placed small dots between the lower lashes. I then applied three coats of CHANEL Le Volume de CHANEL Mascara in Noir on the top and lower lashes. In between each coat, I brushed a small metal comb through her lashes. Using a brow brush, I combed the brows in an upwards direction, and touched them up with CHANEL Le Gel Sourcils Longwear Eyebrow Gel in Transparent. I powdered the face gently with CHANEL Poudre Universelle Libre Natural Finish Loose Powder in 12, then applied CHANEL N°1 de CHANEL Lip and Cheek Balm in Healthy Pink with my fingers.

I finished the cheeks with a little CHANEL Poudre Lumière Highlighting Powder in White Opal. After hydrating Nicole’s lips with CHANEL Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care, I lined them with CHANEL Le Crayon Lèvres Longwear Lip Pencil in Rose Naturel. Lastly, I added a coat of CHANEL Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in Intemporelle and CHANEL Rouge Coco Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour in Adrienne in the center of upper and lower lips.

WHAT WERE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION FOR MAKEUP?
I was truly inspired by Gisele’s incredible natural glow, which is so pure and captivating. She is wearing a very striking dress and I thought, to complement it in the best way, we would have to keep the beauty look fresh and slightly undone, so the complete image is modern and cool.

CAN YOU SHARE ANY TIPS ABOUT LOOK?
For a very natural, “no makeup” look, keep the skin luminous by applying a product like the CHANEL Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick in Golden Light on the highlight zones of the face, shoulders, and chest area. Only use powder in the high-shine zones: under the eyes, around the nose, and at the base of the forehead. For sheer coverage on the face, mix a little moisturizer with your concealer. The CHANEL N°1 de CHANEL Rich Revitalizing Cream is perfect for that.

To make the eyes appear bigger and lifted, without feeling like you’re wearing makeup, apply a touch of winged eyeliner using CHANEL Calligraphie de CHANEL Longwear Intense Cream Eyeliner in Hyperblack starting only from the outer end of the eyes, not all over the eyelid. To look youthful, natural, and to glow, you can use concealer only where necessary and softly bend into the skin, without applying foundation all over the face.

WHAT WERE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION FOR MAKEUP?
My inspiration for tonight’s look is clean, glowy fresh and heightened perfection. I wanted to achieve a shine to mimic her CHANEL dress.

CAN YOU SHARE ANY TIPS ABOUT LOOK?
I started priming her skin by spraying CHANEL N°1 de CHANEL Revitalizing Serum-in-Mist on the face. Then, I layered CHANEL N°1 de CHANEL Revitalizing Serum and sealed in moisture with CHANEL N°1 de CHANEL Rich Revitalizing Cream.

I was strategic in placing shine in certain areas of her face. For a glowy complexion, I used CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundations Hydration and Longwear in BD21 and B30. Then, I powdered her face with CHANEL Poudre Universelle Libre Natural Finish Loose Powder in 10. I used the peachy shade from CHANEL Les 4 Rouges Yeux et Joues Eyeshadow and Blush Palette in Tendresse on the apples of her cheek and laid CHANEL Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Jersey on top. Next, I applied CHANEL Stylo Ombre et Contour Eyeshadow in Electric Brown to gently contour under her cheekbones and her eyelids.

We wanted a strong lash focus to pair with her glowy fresh complexion. I used 2 different mascaras for her eyes. First, I used the CHANEL Le Volume de CHANEL Mascara in Noir and pushed it to the base of the lash, acting as a fake eyeliner, then, applied multiple coats. Next, I used CHANEL Noir Allure Mascara in Noir and applied another layer on the lashes on the inner corners of her eyes.

The look was all about shine, so I used CHANEL Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick in Dragée on top of the cheekbones and on the eyelids. Lastly for her lips, I applied CHANEL Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in Intemporelle all over and shaped with CHANEL Le Crayon Lèvres Longwear Lip Pencil in Beige Naturel.
