ISSEY MIYAKE SS23 | “A Form That Breathes”

Each piece is a rigid-looking fabric sculpture, which as soon as it moves reveals a soft and fluid shape, so light that it seems to breathe.

“A Form That Breathes” is inspired by sculpture. Being able to witness the creative process – the freedom to model and shape with your own hands – the collection includes ideas, elements and textures inspired by it that give life to clothes with original shapes. Each piece is a rigid-looking fabric sculpture, which as soon as it moves reveals a soft and fluid shape, so light that it seems to breathe.

TORSO
The TORSO series is the emblem of the SS 2023 collection. The sculptural silhouettes were handcrafted by the design team with a single piece of fabric. The material is firm and flexible at the same time. The three-dimensionality and the drapery come to life when the garment is worn, as if sculpted on the body.

RESONANT SUIT
The garments in this series are made with a fabric that is first folded and then partially pleated by hand into a round shape. The characterizing motif consists of a series of circular folds inspired by the cycle of life and the concept of rebirth.

LINKAGE
LINKAGE is a seamless knit series that makes creative use of the roundness and harshness of combining different knitting techniques. The fabric is made using recycled polyester. The pattern is the result of the use of threads of two different colors. The vertical bounce changes according to the movement of the wearer, reminiscent of a sort of living statue.

NUDE
Entirely made of knit, NUDE is characterized by the graphic representation of an abstract sculpture inspired by the body. The internal panels are in transparent yarn, creating a drapery and a three-dimensional effect that stand out in the center of the vertical silhouette. The garments can also be worn inside out, making them enjoyable from different angles, just like a sculpture.
