The lush gardens of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon are the setting for the Max Mara Resort 2023 fashion show.

Among the precious works of the twentieth century present at the Gulbenkian Foundation we find the painting by artist Nikias Skapinakis depicting the poetess Natália Correia.

La Correia enjoyed a central position in the intellectual community of Lisbon between the 1970s and 1980s; the unconventional personality and the strong femininity of the poet are the inspiration for this collection. Max Mara pays homage to Portuguese culture also through romantic traditions such as fado, music of love and passion, and the Lenços de namorados do Minho, “lover’s handkerchiefs” on which young women used to embroider messages of love for their loved ones.

The Max Mara Resort 2023 collection delivers a powerful message of passion: “Go lenço feliz”.

The contamination of Portuguese culture translates into voluptuous silhouettes and gathered skirts with large volumes. The femininity of the Correia is reflected in seductive sheath dresses while the pleated taffeta recalls the look of the famous fado singer Amália Rodrigues, whom Correia used to listen to. A coat is perfectly matched to each dress. Hearts, flowers and doves inspired by the sophisticated style of the Lenços de namorados do Minho make their appearance on the prints of the t-shirts, together with the love poem of Max Mara, and on the brooches studded with crystals.
