CREATION SPACE, a space dedicated to special projects at the ISSEY MIYAKE SEMBA flagship store in Osaka, Japan, presents the exhibition “132 5. SQUARE UNITS”. Until February 27, 2022, a series inspired by the “Open Up” pages, focusing on the process of opening a flat object into a three-dimensional shape, and on the shape that emerges from this unfolding.
In the video “132 5. SQUARE UNITS”, a blue square is considered a unit, which represents 132 5 .. A series of squares develops in three dimensions, revealing the various aspects.
For over ten years, 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE has been dedicated to the development of new materials. From the creation of a recycled polyester fabric as its base material, the brand then expanded its development possibilities also through the use of natural fibers mixed with synthetic threads. 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE continues its “Making Thinks” path, always facing new challenges.
This season the design of 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE evolves from the action of “packing” to the development of styles based on the movement of “opening.” The shapes that can be seen by focusing on the process of opening a flat object have been explored. its transformation into a three-dimensional form Opening a book, unwrapping and reconstructing a form by opening an envelope.
132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE proposes dynamic and relaxed styles discovered by the various movements of “opening”.
“132 5. SQUARE UNITS”
They depict the 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE logo image. When folded, each element indicates the number it refers to, “1”, “3”, “2”, “5”. The underscore is revealed by opening the object that transforms from a plate into a piece of clothing. Made of plant-based polyester fabric, they have colors and silhouettes that express the style and design of 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE.
