What does one ask of a designer? To describe her home, that her living room or that the colour of her walls are easily recognizable amongst others? This is the case with Vanessa Bruno.

Even if this season she respected the decorum, her romanticism will always reflect a sensitive edginess, the furniture arrangement has changed. Because the personal nature of the Vanessa Bruno brand is first and foremost a study of style, the expression of women. Here she is aiming the independent woman, the adventuress, the aviator, and a pioneer of life in the air. As a whole, the collection is like a piece of electronic music, which by hybridization has claimed some classical notes, some fundamental essential codes of the brand. Even if the process may be complex, a simple way of going straight to the ultimate goal of an ethereal wardrobe, light as a winter sun of pastel colours, creamy and with camouflage effects to reveal a gentle softness.

A wardrobe originating in utility clothes, outfits as friendly as a cockpit where the compartment is benevolent and welcoming: felted mohair coats, animal inspired prints or the comfort of quilted long or short bomber jackets overlaid with technical tulle. Here we find garments seemingly snugly fitting a liberated body, an intimate relationship with the person wearing them: a zip-front dress tweaked with an abstract camouflage print embellished with eyelets and grosgrain. All this springing from the ergonomic fluidity of the likes of a parachute.

There is also an intermediate zone, femininity… a tad boyish where corsetry melds with sportswear: bustier dresses with straps that give a whiff of discreet sensuality…. And short dresses with futuristic inspirations unburdened by the weight of references. Some scattered with iridescent appliqué petals and embroidered thread insets. Others with jewel like pleats and bounded by chiffon strips (another take on parachutes).

And finally a relaxed encounter with what the body unveils – legs flashing under curvy short skirts – the protective spirit of outerwear. Jackets and coats to safeguard against the climate, the soul, wind and weather. A play of comfort textured coats layered over hooded men’s shirts, leopard prints serenely weatherworn by time.
