Nora is a beautiful girl at the beginning of a new love. Very elegant, she takes a shortcut through an abandoned building to go to her appointment. Kevin, her ex, stops in the background. The result is a 21st century story common today all over the world, about the power play between men and women, sexuality and shame, told in a biting, feminist way.

I AND THE STUPID BOY, directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, is the twenty-second film commissioned by Miu Miu for Women’s Tales, the short film series that invites today’s most original and profound female directors to explore the vanity and femininity of the 21st century.

“I wanted to create an impossible love story,” says the director. “The protagonist of my film is a very empathetic girl,” she continues, “while the boy sees everything only from her point of view.” Kaouther’s film explores the communication problems between these very different personality types. The way Nora is dressed in her Miu Miu clothes is fundamental to the evolution of the character’s story. “Nora has sex appeal, she wants to be cool. When she is stopped by Kevin, her outfit doesn’t help her. I really like this contradiction, ”and she adds:“ Costumes are a very powerful tool in cinema, just as much as sets and lighting ”.

The story is inspired by a real episode in which, in Paris, the director overheard a girl shouting desperately at a boy: “Give me back my phone!” I AND THE STUPID BOY deals with a number of very topical issues that young women today find themselves facing almost everywhere: technology and intimacy, relationships drugs and self-esteem and the fact that, as Kaouther says, “a simple click is enough to reveal a secret”.
