CHANEL at la Samaritaine

CHANEL unveiling three spaces in the heart of la Samaritaine for its reopening on June 23rd 2021.

Dedicated to shoes, watches and fine jewelry, as well as fragrances and beauty, these three universes are located in the historic building of this illustrious department store, inseparable from the history of Paris itself.

Situated on the fourth floor, the shoe space designed by architect Peter Marino presents designs from the latest CHANEL collections. An elegant black and gold two-tone is used throughout the 25 m2 boutique, providing high levels of contrast between light and dark. On the walls, custom gold wall panels with a subtle texture alternate large mirrors framed with gilded bronze, playing with perspectives. The floor is covered with an elegant beige carpet, graphically linear, surrounded by black parquet. For seating, a pair of slipper chairs are upholstered in tweed, while a large minimalist console table displays the season’s shoes.

Within this space, CHANEL has chosen to exhibit two works by the Canadian-American artist Agnès Martin, famous for her abstract work based on the repetition of lines. The second floor of la Samaritaine welcomes the CHANEL Watches and Fine Jewelry. Extending over 32 m2, this showcase draws inspiration from the world of Gabrielle Chanel: strips of mirror and screens gilded with gold leaf and silk-screened by hand dress the walls, echoing the historic staircase at 31 rue Cambon and the Coromandel screens in Mademoiselle Chanel’s apartment. Other off-white wall panels welcome framed photographs of the couturière and contrast with the black floor carpet streaked with gold.

The console tables and display cases house the new N°5 fine jewelry collection, pieces from the COCO CRUSH and CAMÉLIA collections, as well as the J12, BOY·FRIEND, CODE COCO and PREMIÈRE watches. On the basement level, a vast 60 m2 space is dedicated to CHANEL fragrance, skincare and make-up. Minimalist and graphic, this space is laid out over a pale grey floor and white walls highlighted with black. Gold panels frame the products fromthe Sublimage range, while other skincare lines are exhibited in black cabinets with white backgrounds.

Les Exclusifs de CHANEL fragrances are nestled in a case surrounded by strips of mirror, while large immaculate white console tables engraved with the letters of CHANEL in tone-on-tone, presentthe make-up and other perfumes. Finally, a selection of sunglasses completes the space.
