Virgil Abloh, Artistic Director of the Louis Vuitton men’s collections, wanted to bring his collections around the world for the Spring-Summer 2021 fashion show. At a time when traveling seemed impossible, the Louis Vuitton SS 2021 Men’s Collection show traveled the world, inside colorful containers, containing the huge collection imagined by Virgil Abloh for the Maison. Departing from Paris, after stopping in Shanghai and Tokyo where as many shows have taken place, today they arrive in Milan.
In the Louis Vuitton pop-up store, inside the Rinascente, the containers of the show become the set that presents the Spring-Summer 2021 Collection, which, entitled “Message in a Bottle”, celebrates the themes of diversity, inclusiveness and cohesion. A collection populated by imaginary characters, the cheerful brigade baptized by Virgil Abloh “Zoooom with friends”, anthropomorphic creatures, different from each other, precisely to evoke the fundamental value of inclusiveness, but also the theme of childhood, dear to the Artistic Director, and the will to look at the world through the eyes of a child. Upon entering the containers, visitors will discover the populated collection of fabric prints and sculptures representing the cheerful company “Zoooom with Friends”; the new motif ” Distorted Damier ”, in which the historic pattern of the Maison is distorted through the gaze of a surrealist lens and finally the contrasting color combinations (“ color block ”) of the clothes that recall the colors of containers.
These are the main themes of the Spring-Summer 2021 collection, which become just as many ideas for the setting. The walls, like container panels, are blocks of contrasting colors, which highlight the checkerboard floor, a clear reference to the game of chess, but here distorted to symbolize a total overturning of the rules.
Even the mannequins, 3D reproductions of the models of the show, as in a natural continuation of the floor, are decorated with the black and white checkered pattern.
Customers will find a complete range of products from the male universe: clothing, bags, accessories, small leather goods and footwear, which mix multicultural influences in a conversation halfway between ancestral and urban concepts, childhood memories and progress.
