Maison Michel presents the “Legacy Parade” collection

The new collection is a singular expression of Priscilla Royer’s obsession with the cult of personality at Maison Michel

Freedom, a principle so dear to Priscilla Royer in her creative process, is the starting point of the limited edition “Legacy Parade” collection, based around two concepts: how to bring materials forgotten in the milliner’s stock rooms back to life and how to use the house’s extravagant and historic hat forms to make exceptional pieces.

“I’d noticed that there were very beautiful raw materials that hadn’t been used simply because there wasn’t enough to consider a production of these references,” comments Priscilla Royer, artistic director of the House since 2015.

The “Legacy Parade” collection is free of any constraints imposed by the fashion calendar or the seasons, it is the singular expression of Priscilla Royer’s obsession with the cult of personality at Maison Michel. Like a poem, it focuses on several characters where the lines, points, and curves become the punctuation.
Noble materials such a polka-dot printed silk, a very thin sewn straw known as picot straw and a plumetis tulle offer all sorts of possibilities to embellish whimsical berets and bowler hats with ears.

“Legacy” echoes the heritage of the milliner’s unique savoir-faire and “Parade” illustrates the pure, immediate and spontaneous creativity of this collection. Occasionally flirting with the theatrical exaggeration of the hat forms, the XXL headbands and the chinstrap made of giant pearls, are all nods to the distinct style of Maison Michel. These pieces are destined for the sophisticated hat lover who seeks exclusivity. Some creations are one-offs, while others are part of a very limited edition, “I used what I had to hand, with no alternatives, no safety nets,” adds Priscilla Royer. The first edition of this special collection features about ten of original creations. By proposing this collection, destined to grow over time, Maison Michel is using all the excellence of its métiers d’art expertise to serve the creativity of Priscilla Royer.

The second edition pieces will be available exclusively from January 2021 in our Parisian boutique, 22, rue Cambon. The first edition of 9 pieces was launched last February exclusively in our London boutique 26 Conduit St, Mayfair, London.
