Peter Philips, creative and image director for Dior Makeup, created the make-up for the autumn-winter 2019-2020 haute-couture collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri, with a look that emphasized the eyes, to match the elegant, dark-hued silhouettes that displayed work on volume.
“I emphasized the eyes by making them softly smoky, but still really quite intense. It’s a look of modern purity, subtly worked with simplicity, where a translucent complexion also plays an important role.”

Eyes
Peter Philips explained: “the eyes were surrounded with a smoky halo that was both soft and intense. I obtained this intense dark colour with the black shade from the new 3 couleurs tri(o)blique 053 smoky canvas palette, which i applied to the upper eyelid and to the lash line of the lower eyelid. The effect is very smoky and weightless. To accentuate the delicate aspect of the eyes i didn’t use mascara. For the finishing touch to this deep eye, brows were disciplined and elegantly defined thanks to the precision of diorshow brow styler and diorshow pump ’n’ brow.”

Complexion
Peter Philips describes “a pure, translucent complexion obtained by first applying the new Dior backstage face & body primer that blurs the skin, followed by a fine layer of Dior backstage face & body foundation, with shades chosen from the forty-something references to best match each skin tone. For touch-ups i used the flash luminizer which adds light, then i finished with a very light sweep of dior forever & ever control loose powder.”

Lips
“Lips looked very natural, heightened with dior lip maximizer, with the shine toned down just before models went out on the catwalk.”
Nails
Nails looked natural in gel coat abricot.
Hair
Two fine braids start at the temples and go all the way back to roll up in a bun. A veil puts the finishing touch on this sharp and elegant hairstyle.
