With the title “Force for Nature” the Spring 2020 collection proposes a woman of strong passions, who cares about the future of the planet, and launches a strong message of activism through the poetic phrases of the writer and environmentalist Jonathan Safran Foer. Considered herself a force of nature, Stella embodies the spirit of positive change and this season encourages everyone to join her.
Jonathan Safran Foer, famous for his best seller “Everything is illuminated”, lends his words to sustainable philosophy, the protagonist of the capsule collection “We are the Weather”. This capsule takes its name from its next novel that will talk about climate change and proposes pieces embellished with statements such as “we are totally free to live differently”, written on ready-to-wear garments, sweaters and accessories for men and women.
It is a palette of fresh colors to welcome spring with energy and a wild spirit: ranging from earth tones such as oats, cocoa, ginger, stone, khaki and gray wolf to flashes of access color such as flamingo pink, purple, lilac, Bellini blue and bright red.
Stella’s ethics and aspiration for a circular economy are always the protagonists: over 60% of the collection is made with sustainable materials. The ability to trace the origin of Alpaca wool represents a new milestone for the brand, while organic cotton, sustainable viscose, ECONYL® recycled nylon, and recycled polyester continue to be widely used in the collections.
Speaking of the collection, Stella states: “Everything we strive for in our industry seems to finally concentrate and take shape in a single collection. It really seemed like the right season to deal with these issues and incorporate them into the collection in a bolder way”.
Among the special pieces of the “We are the Weather” line include a jumpsuit, a utility style dress, trousers and a duvet decorated with our characteristic sun print. With a style that inspires counterculture, the print features handwritten messages by Jonathan radiating from a graphic illustration of the sun. The motif is reinterpreted as a rich inlay on undone knitwear. The embroidered ribbons with the messages that adorn the precious Savile Row tailoring add a touch of refinement.
But hints and free references to Mother Nature do not stop there. The horses that dance on luxurious structured dresses, shirts and coats are a symbolic manifestation of Stella’s love for animals. Botanical prints, inspired by the psychedelic floral illustrations of the 1960s, shine with energetic shades and modern color combinations. Then there is the return of the Fur Free Fur, in the guise of a sumptuous powder pink leopard on inlaid jersey.
The strongly practical and functional silhouette has always been the staple of Stella: a style that this season is reinvented with bright colors. Organic cotton denim overalls are revived thanks to yellow and teal, and a light work jacket with cargo pants is embellished with soft and lively shades of lilac. Bleached cargo pants with patch pockets are a fresh variation of normal denim.
Moments of powerful minimalism creep into the collection, adding clarity and modernity. A dress with a casual silhouette stands out that is bathed in a bright red, while the elegant camel coat is an unmistakable classic by Stella. Sophisticated cocktail dresses are defined by curved sculptural lines finished in gold.
Among the accessories, the patchwork up cycled bag made from blue panels of archive fabric is one of the flagship pieces that express Stella’s belief in the circular economy, while the cylindrical bags in bright pastel colors are embellished by the characteristic logo. The collection is completed by plateau sandals, stacked heels, Alter-Nappa uppers and luxurious gold decorations.
