Whether diamond or chevron, quilting is a constant source of inspiration for CHANEL. Now, its timeless design is part of the House’s new optical and sunglasses eyewear collection. When it appeared for the first time in February 1955 on the iconic 2.55 bag, the quilting immediately imposed itself as a signature. Initiator of technical innovation, this iconic motif adds a graphic and understated design to the eyewear frames in acetate and metal for Fall 2019. A chevron quilting adorns three sunglasses frames in acetate. We see it firstly engraved on two metal bars positioned at the extremities of the ultra-flat lenses of a futuristic cat eye shield, available in black, burgundy, midnight blue and brown.
The chevron is also embossed on the temples of a butterfly frame and an XL oval frame in a palette ranging from dark green and black to navy, burgundy and tortoiseshell. Two pairs of optical glasses with slender temples complete the range.
Along with the acetate, metal retains a special place in the CHANEL eyewear collections. In a minimalist spirit, its frames are also embellished with quilting. While the diamond quilting is engraved by laser onto a masculine/feminine style square pilot and an XL square frame with a retro vibe, other frames feature the chevron quilting. Chiselled like facets, the grooves of the chevron are even worked into the lenses of the butterfly, cat eye and rectangular frames and it also adorns the temple ends. These frames in silver, gold, ruthenium or matte black metal encircle lenses in timeless colours – navy blue, brown, grey – or in vintage – hues of transparent grey, sky blue and dusky rose. Two optical forms, butterfly and pantos, take on the characteristics of sunglasses designs.
The CHANEL Fall 2019 eyewear collection will be available from June 2019.
Accessorising the Fall-Winter 2019/20 Ready-to-Wear collection, the shield sunglasses take pride of place this season. They stood out on the runway with their rounded rectangular lines and combine an absolute black or white acetate frame with slender temples in metal stamped with a double C. For a maximum protection, the lenses have been dipped in 18-carat white gold.
An innovative rectangular shield with very wide temples boldly enriches this range. Indeed, two materials are united to form one, walnut wood and rubber, or acetate and rubber according to the design, in black or glacier blue. A feat achieved not through bonding but the technique of high frequency fusion. Thus obtained, this new material is then engraved with the famous quilting by laser. The diamond quilting also returns on the walnut and rubber temples of two delicate octagonal and square sunglasses frames. Surrounded with black or tortoiseshell acetate, their lenses come with a mirrored effect and are subtly tinted in gradated pink beige or pine green.
CHANEL’s Fall-Winter 2019/20 eyewear will arrive in boutiques at the same time as the Ready-to-Wear collection in September 2019.
