The ELLERY Spring’19 collection was inspired by the conceptual artwork of Paul Kos’ entitled ‘Sound of Ice Melting’. The 1970’s sculpture consists of eight attentive microphones focused upon a melting twelve-kilogram ice-block, in the hope of catching a sound.
“The intrigue and mystery of our world is endless. I wanted to make a collection of wearable clothing for inquisitive women who are thinkers.” – Kym Ellery
Spring’19 delivers an icey colour palette with shades of blue, silver and optic white sat alongside bright canary yellows and warm nude tones.
The silhouettes are neat and well postured. Sharp, slim tailoring is punctuated by a stripe of ELLERY logo embroidered lace which also borders crisp cotton shirting blouse and dress hems horizontally. Demure dresses are lean, made from technical lycra and highlighted with faux-corsetry details. Tailoring is monochromatic and clean but is also then softened with silk ties at both the wrist and the ankles. A hint of draping appears on the last look with a sweet-heart necklined corset that dramatically drapes to the floor in a stiff silk taffeta.
Fabrications are technical and dynamic. A weighty silver geometric jersey and sheen tan jersey swath across the body, draped and tucked asymmetrically. A dinosaur illustrated double silk georgette adds an elegantly playful element to the collection and a knitted rib suit hugs the body in bold blue.
Technical spotted embellishments nod to the 1960’s with their careful and deliberate placement whilst other embroidered pieces feature carefully stitched clusters all over the garment – this techniaue seen on both a clean white cropped top with cone sleeve and a little triangle bra. The shoes are sculptural with an articulated square base that traces the toes. On one pair a silver pebble sits between the toes and delicate leather laces criss-cross the ankle. On another a unique double-toe strap anchors a delicate heeled sandal. A white ankle boot features a red diagonal binding, adding a modern and sporty tone.
The jewellery collection explores colour, with a blue frosty balayage fading into silver. Warped gold coiled hoops are decorated with a splatter of white paint and amber-esque resins are encased in a gold façade.
Spring’19 is a collection steeped in contrast and fine details, listening in carefully and catching the new sound of the season, with ease.
