Paris open the Allée Sonia Rykiel

On September 29th at 8 pm, Paris Mayor, Anne Hidalgo, and Nathalie Rykiel will officially open the ‘ Allée Sonia Rykiel ’ in the heart of iconic Saint Germain-des-Près.

The location of this street is that of the quintessentially Left Bank, the Sunday organic market in Boulevard Raspail. It is fitting that the flame-haired, gourmande, rose-loving Sonia Rykiel’s street should be an ‘ allée ’, alluding to those pathways in gardens between trees and bushes, and one that is home to the finest food market in Paris – the pleasurable escape !

The City of Paris will pay tribute to Madame Rykiel’s unique talent with the unveiling o f the street plaque. In this city whose streets are usually named after politicians, writers, philosophers, mathematicians and scientists, this will be the very first to commemorate a fashion designer.

For Spring Summer 2019, Julie de Libran, Artistic Director of the house, will show a collection which is inspired by the notion of the Parisian stroll. The Rive Gauche spirit will promenade with pride beneath the market stalls which will have been invaded by the stripe which the house has made its own.

This open air defilé is a new chapter in the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the house of Sonia Rykiel, following Manifesto In January, L’Atelier in July among others…

“ Une allée c’est comme un podium dans la rue car c’est dans la rue que tout a commencé. Que serait la Rive Gauche sans toi, Sonia ? ”

This year our fashion stage is the street because it was in the street where it all began. What would the left bank be without you, Sonia? ’ Nathalie Rykiel.
