Bottega Veneta Cruise 2019 is divided into three distinct groups. “They are like mini collections,” says Maier. “One delivers in November, one in December and one in Januar y. Each is about what clients might need or want at the time when pieces arrive in the store.” The collection begins by continuing the Fall/ Winter 18 runway with the same rich palet te. Maier plays with propor tion and volume. Bot tega Veneta’s signature double cashmere and double wool turns sporty in an oversize duffle coat and duffle jackets with exaggerated toggle closures.
The second group trades fall’s jewel tones for icy pastels. “ I wanted to offer the lightest colors for the darkest days of the year,” says Maier.
“They’re very mood-lifting.” Those subtle colors are a fine complement to luxe, tactile materials: boiled cashmere, Steif f teddy bear fur and even a touch of lace. The last group hints at what might come down the spring runway in an energetic eclecticism. “Ever y thing is printed or patterned,” says Maier. “But nothing matches.” These looks require close inspection. Each motif is created from tiny dots, giving the illusion of a houndstooth or wallpaper print from afar. Women’s bags celebrate the individualism that is essential to Bottega Veneta. Maier introduces a clever and functional “accessor y to the accessor y.” These are small leather goods in Intrecciato Checker designed to slide onto belts or a handbag strap, to customize pieces in any way a client might like. Meanwhile, a cur ving and compact satchel is the ideal new day bag for the woman on the go. Paying homage to the butterfly, a longtime brand symbol, Maier created a cravat teria motif, printed on leather in a few new styles, including the first women’s belt bag.
