With his distinctive ideas and innovative ways of “making things”, Issey Miyake has constantly sought an evolution in the concept of dress through his creative exploration.
After the monograph published by TASCHEN Issey Miyake (first edition published in February 2016, concept and editorial direction curated by Midori Kitamura), this new book retraces the 8 chapters of the essay by Kazuko Koike integrating an unpublished final chapter.
“Where did Issey come from? – The work of Issey Miyake “, written by Koike, who has known Miyake since the days of the schools and has since observed the work, cleverly describes the great achievements and creations of Issey contextualizing them to the historical period. Written from the exclusive point of view of Koike, the creator herself who supports the culture of the same generation, this work can be appreciated as an interesting documentary of the times.
The other special features of this new publishing project are that, about thirty works by Tadanori Yokoo, distributed in each chapter, originally used for invitations to the Parisian fashion shows of the brand between 1977 and 1999.
The combination of the majesty of Japanese verticalism that uses letterpress printing and the sophisticated atmosphere of the English horizontal composition, fruit the virtuous skills of graphic designer Katsumi Asaba and decorate the book to perfection.

“Where did Issey come from? – The work of Issey Miyake”, scritto da Koike, che conosce Miyake sin dai tempi delle scuole e ne ha da allora osservato il lavoro, descrive argutamente i grandi traguardi e le creazioni di Issey contestualizzandole al periodo storico. Per menzionare altre speciali caratteristiche di questo nuovo progetto editoriale, una trentina di opere di Tadanori Yokoo, distribuite in ciascun capitolo, originariamente utilizzate per gli inviti alle sfilate parigine del brand tra il 1977 e il 1999.
