Chanel SS18 Eyewear Campaign

With her appearance and her breezy elegant attitude, Gabrielle Chanel transcends time. Her face, her silhouette and her particular way of playing with the masculine/feminine created an eternally modern style. The Spring-Summer 2018 eyewear campaign is reminiscent of a famous image of the designer. Perched on the shoulders of her friend the dancer Serge Lifar, Gabrielle Chanel exudes a lust for life and an eternal carefree chic. To evoke this portrait, Karl Lagerfeld has chosen top model Adwoa Aboah. For this campaign shot by Karl Lagerfeld in a black and white that’s more radiant than ever, Adwoa Aboah combines Mademoiselle Chanel’s turban, her black and white knitwear and her pearl sautoirs with this season’s eyewear.

This campaign with its obvious elegance features four designs from the Summer 2018 collection as well as a shield presented on the runway last October during the Spring-Summer 2018 Ready-to-Wear show. This one, for the first time, comes with 18 carat gold lenses. Another technical challenge sees the light of day with a daring sunglasses frame in metal punctuated with 33 pearls, each one inserted by hand. The pearl also appears on a more understated version, this time encased in the temples of spectacles, rectangular in a discreetly sparkling tweed-style acetate or a pilot shape in acetate swathed with tortoiseshell. All-in-one and playful, a pair of butterfly glasses boast a true asset: an optical mount onto which one or two interchangeable magnetic sunglasses clips can be attached.

Spectacles or sunglasses, the eyewear completes the silhouettes of the campaign, haloed with the aura of Gabrielle Chanel. Modernity and timelessness, vibrant, attractive, simply chic.
