It’s the energy of a renaissance season that Karl Lagerfeld has chosen to illustrate for the CHANEL Spring-Summer 2018 pre-collection. With doe eyes and crimson lips, the French model Camille Hurel embodies a revised sportswear infused with the allure of CHANEL. An elegant chair in quilted leather installed at Karl Lagerfeld’s 7L Studio suffices for the décor.

Modernised, the sportswear mixes up styles and takes possession of the iconic tweed jacket, shortening or transforming it into a short jacket. Mademoiselle’s fetish fabric also features as a playsuit, a fringed crop top and large belts worn as micro skirts. This spirit of sport chic is reinforced as bright orange sneakers accessorise a dress embellished with sparkling sequins, a tuxedo jacket, a ruffled lace blouse and other tops decorated with camellias. For spring, leather is soft and naturally accompanies movement without hindering it: in midnight blue, it comes as a shirt fastened with a chiffon and grosgrain camellia brooch, and as skirts both long and mid-length.

Tweed and camellias, but also fingerless gloves cut high over the hand, quilted leather on the wooden-heeled mules, double C’s stamped on cuffs, and chains embellishing the pockets and belts of the leather outfits: the CHANEL codes are omnipresent. Bags also add their signature: the clutch bags mix multicolour tweed with leather, sometimes exotic, while the vanity case is back as a full-grain leather version stitched with an XL double C, and a white leather bag with understated lines is enhanced with a CC clasp and chains with large golden links.
