The Ten: Virgil Abloh collaborates with Nike
This week, Virgil Abloh and Nike unveiled “The Ten” collection, which includes ten of Nike’s most popular running and basketball silhouettes, torn apart and reconstructed by Abloh.
Dropping at fashion week in New York, London, Milan and Paris, the collaborative versions feature signature details like OFF-WHITE’s signature zip tie, and industrial branding calling out the features of each shoe, like “AIR” and “SHOELACES.”
10 models of shoes are divided into two themes. The first pack was conceived around the theme of “REVEALING,” and consists of an Air Jordan I, Nike Air Max 90, Nike Air Presto, Nike Air VaporMax and Nike Blazer Mid. The remaining five sneakers (Nike Air Max 97, Nike React Hyperdunk, Nike Air Force 1, Nike Zoom Vaporfly and Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star produced by Converse-owned Nike) are part of a separate pack titled “GHOSTING,” but all 10 silhouettes will be available in November at NikeLab stores and select retailers worldwide.
The collaborative Air Force 1 is notably different from previous iterations that leaked on social media, featuring a translucent upper. “In my brain I’ve seen every iteration or color of an Air Force One. So where does that leave you?,” Virgil notes to GQ. “I wanted to make something that stops you from mindlessly scrolling.”
