New store of Issey Miyake in Milan

Issey Miyake has launched its first Italian store in Milan, on March 15, 2017. The store covering about 500 square meters of retail space, is located in a historic building – Palazzo Reina – on via Bagutta 12. It is the first time when Issey Miyake chooses a historic building for one of its flagship stores.

Built between 1826 and 1831 by the Reina family, the palace was transferred into the ownership of City of Milan in 1921. In 2014, a real estate company bought it and gave impetus to a faithful restoration respecting the historical importance of the property.

“Designing is a process of discovery, ‘making things’, create reality, freedom, innovation. Designing is work that gives joy to people. For me, Milan is already a city of creativity. I am proud to be part of it. ” – says Issey Miyake.

“The location where the store is, expresses the contrast between history and the future, through the many layers of time in the fabric of the interior walls, contraposition to a futuristic colored aluminum. The round aluminum floating sculptures are colored with the same technique used to dye the fabrics. The colors – blue, orange and green – are symbolizing the energy of nature. L ‘essence of design, harmonized with technology and manual work, characterize the space of the store, reflecting the philosophy at the base of the creations of Issey Miyake. ” – says Tokujin Yoshioka, interior designer.

The new store will offer all lines of the brand including Issey Miyake, Issey Miyake Men, Pleats Please, Homme Plissé, Bao Bao and 132 5 Issey Miyake.
